Set old eggs as an experiment, AND......

So I guess the new rule for a good hatch rate is that eggs must be 2 weeks old or older and only rotated some of those days they sit on the shelf. I hope to hatch a few later this month. So I will keep that in mind.

Those look like mighty hearty looking chicks under the circumstances. Good for you!!!

You can store eggs up to 15 days before setting them with great results. After the 15 days fertility drops off.You should turn them at least 3 times a day during the storing.

Maybe I should clarify that I was not trying to prove the "rules" wrong or anything. I simply was passing on information on a little experiment I did because 1) I had extra room in the bator and 2) these were left over eggs that I had been collecting for awhile and was simply going to trash. Of course, the fresher eggs the better, as everyone knows...and I would not by any means send someone 3 week old eggs to hatch. However, now *I* know that just because an egg is maybe 11 or 12 days old or even older, it doesn't have to be trashed and could result in a chick. I am a very cut and dry person, and before I took the "10 day rule" literally.
