Hello Heidisgran & CAjerseychick!

Heidisgran - how many duck eggs? What type?

CAjerseychick - How rude of the other hen to steal her eggs! I hope she gets to have her own babies this time round. Did many of the original clutch hatch? Is she isolated this time round? JG's are not really available here in Australia... but I googled them, they look pretty!

Sorry, I was offline for a day there....
But to get back to your question --Yes! 4 little ones hatched out (1 died unexpectedly on day 6 ).... and are running around the yard with their adopted chicken mama...
We are having a heat wave currently-- so its been over 103 degrees(41 celscius) outside and more than that in the coop (yes hen set AGAIN in a nest box in the coop, its where the last 4 hatched out just fine)... I hope she is OK I am currently out of town til Friday (2 days) night....
I hope your set is incubating well too!

Blom545 - Wow! You must have lost of space.... are you on a farm? I wish I had more space to expand chook runs.

Chickenlver2013 - They are a striking bird to see, lucky you! Don't see them round here either...

Lots of exotic varieties turning up here, how exciting! Well... exotic to me from this side of the world. Most people here have either Isa Browns or RIR's in their backyard. I have one each of Australorp, RIR and Welsummer. And recently hatched (for the first time!) a french Wheaten Marans - extremely rare here and another one which I have not got a clue what it is - it's supposed to be a RIR...but it ain't!!

So, I'm wanting to try hatching more Marans - but the waiting list for eggs here is over 6-8 weeks, so for now I have got my hands on 4 tiny Araucana's.  My plan ultimately is to cross the Marans and the Araucana's for some Olive Eggers. :love
my little hens staryed laying and I barrowed an incubator to practice and goung to see if they will hatch

I've set 22 eggs and the hatch date is the 19th-20th. They're all marans x with RIR, black sex link, and ameraucana. Not sure what I'm going to do with the chicks if I don't get any buyers

Gen9 - G'day! Sounds like you sell them as chicks if possible? Doing it for the love of it otherwise?

CAJerseychick - hope they don't get over cooked!! Obviously summer where you are right now. Winter has just come on here -1 this morning outside.

Blom545 - 2Ha would be heavenly. We're on just under 1/2 an acre here - thinking of letting the girls start free-ranging on the bush nature-strip, because they make such a mess of my garden.

Pretty much just doing it because I've never done it before, and it's kinda fun.. except the bad dreams I get. it would be nice to sell them, just to get the money back I invested in my chickens. & I just came across a thread that people swear by giving the chickens ACV they have a higher rate of females. Well wouldn't you know it? I've never given it to mine and it would be my luck that they would all be males! LOL but I'm just preparing myself for the worst.... so far, things are looking great. I don't know why I am so worried. I just need to get a broody so she can do all the work next time.
I live on about 1/3 acre in a subdivision (technically the backyard is about 1/6th acre) So not much space for 30+ chickens if I can't sell them.

Hi,
Put 6 polish eggs under my 2 broody pekins on 2nd July so will be due to hatch about 23rd July.
This will be the first time under a broody as last year I used an incubator and raised the chicks indoors which was very hard work! Hoping for a good hatch rate, so fingers crossed!
