Hi,
Put 6 polish eggs under my 2 broody pekins on 2nd July so will be due to hatch about 23rd July.
This will be the first time under a broody as last year I used an incubator and raised the chicks indoors which was very hard work! Hoping for a good hatch rate, so fingers crossed!

Me too ! THis poor broody lost her nest first time around (as I described above) and I am really hoping she will see it thru the end and get some babies !!(our hatch date is around the 19th or 20th)!

Ashem0 I can totally relate-- my helper is 10 but she def has her ideas about helping it was really hard to get her to not handle the new chicks and setting eggs thru the process, on the other hand I think its important for them to keep their interest in the chickens and be good chicken raisers...
And yes we will be home late late tonight, heat wave the whole week we were gone, I cant wait to check on Mama and the other set of new chicks....

I just started my first incubation in a ReptiPro 6000. I have 13 Easter Eggers and 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes. I put them in July 3rd. I'm curious when everyone starts candling.

Well, I candled at day 3(?) I'm really not sure what day I'm on today! LOL I candled them because I wanted to see if I messed anything up. The temp got down to 95 at some point, but it didn't stay at that temp for very long apparently. & plus I was having really bad dreams & I needed peace of mind. 20 out of 22 are fertile. so far. Going to check in a few days to see if the other 2 are developing, if not, they're going in the trash. Then in a couple more days (day 12?) I'm going to candle all of them again, then candle on day 17 or 18? right before lockdown. (This is my first hatch.)

I got super curious last night and candled one of my EE eggs, I couldn't tell much outside of the air sac and a dark area in the middle. I've never done it before but I'm sure by the end of this hatch I will learn. I'm going to wait until tomorrow night or Sunday night. Day 5 or 6 and candle all of them. Hopefully I will be able to see some veins going on in there.

I bought two bantam pullets and an unrelated bantam cockerel hoping next spring one or both of the hens would go broody on some tiny babies. I lost my American Game pullet a couple of weeks ago. I purchased her for the specific reason of brooding eggs. That's okay because now I get to me momma hen.

CAJerseychick - my son was devastated he'd "killed an animal". He is such a sweet-hearted little lad. It took him a couple of days to get, but he has a new respect for the eggs now and their fragility. On the other end of the spectrum, it was fascinating looking at the embryo. That was my best egg on candling so I was disappointed.

Welshchick - Best of luck with your littlies.

I have candled mine - 1 definite, 1 quitter and 1 maybe - will leave them all in though unless they start to smell!
