Set some eggs just now, due date 20th July.... anyone else setting just now? Hatch-Along

Decided to assist my final hope of an egg, it has just broken through the membrane but is exhausted!
Hope it can beat the odds and make is - half its body has made it out but needs to rest for now!

Well our lone hatched chick (its now day 24) fell outa the nest box (its 2 ft up from the floor of the coop) so Mama abandoned the last 5 eggs.... She is on the floor of the coop in a nest of straw with her chick..I set up a chick feeder and waterer next to them...... I dont have an incubator,.... leaving tommorrow midday til Sat eve.... Sigh..... I guess just be happy with the one chick (her 3 chicks from last month are being raised by another hen and are doing well-- so 4 chicks isnt bad for our little home flock this season)....
Awww I'm sorry to hear that but I guess these kinds of things happen with broodies and probably for a very good reason. I really hope one of mine turns out to be broody, maybe even 2. I rather have broodies than lack of sleep - even if it means less chicks.

You're able to come and go as you please and just check every once in awhile, I really don't have a life during incubation and ESPECIALLY during lockdown~!I just want to set it and forget it LOL

WOW great job with the assisted hatch!! I'm very happy to see this

Good morning everyone! The minute my eyes popped open I had to run and check on my assisted hatch. Here's what I found.

The little light colored on one the right!!! She made it out all on her own!

I'm absolutely thrilled that I didn't send it to it's doom rushing into helping it. I will be much more patient with the remaining 10.

Thank you so much everyone! If not for you all I might have rushed it further and killed it.

That's good, it probably needs to absorb more yolk the longer it waits the better, then you don't have to worry about cords or prolapses like I did, all mine that had those died 48 hrs. after they hatched.

Great news! Assisted hatch is out
smile.png

It sensibly waited until it had absorbed all of it's yoke and is now resting.
I think thats that for my hatch 3 hatches and maybe 1 more to come is a longshot, though!
Will post pictures of the assisted hatch, thinking of setting another batch starting tomorrow?
I am going away for 2 weeks so I won't be tempted to touch and my incubator can do the work

Thanks to all who have helped me through the process, and I hope I have offered help
too. It's been great speaking to you all and I'll be back as soon as I can. I am going on
holiday and if there's WIFI there, I can keep up with everything!

Tragedy over night :hit
A second egg hatched but a third peeped then was dead when I woke up this morning. I opened up the egg and the fully born chickie was there :( Have given him a funeral.
But there are 2 in the breeder, and looks like 1 more chick might hatch today! It's in a blue egg! Will post some pictures now!

I'm so sorry.
