Set Ten Eggs Under Nugget

Hi Cynthia. Good luck with your girl. Have you thought about bringing her inside. I have mine in an extra large rubber maid tote she is warm, isolated and happy
I even have food and water in there. She is a banty Cochin though

I think if I moved her again, I'd upset her and she may wake up from her spell too much, but who knows? I did record the chicks chirping and played that for her yesterday. Better go back out and play it again!

Gloria Jean, I've moved a hen as the eggs were pipping. When they are talking to her, she is less likely to leave them, seems to me.

She's making me NUTS! Finally, after seeing her off the eggs for another long while and having them all cool to the touch, I put her back in the flock, put the eggs in a carton and took them to the house. They are only two days along now. On a hunch, I took the carton of eggs out to the main coop, put them in a rarely used nest and my DH put Nugget in there. She fought him for a moment, then realized her eggs were in there and settled down on them. I don't know if there is any hope after all the long cooling periods they've had, but can't hurt to try again. If she gets off and stays off, then I'll remove them and wait till she is completely in the mood. And I'll have to move her when the eggs start pipping because she is in a second story nest more than a foot off the ground.

ETA: I took the eggs. Went out a few minutes ago. Eggs were still warm, but Nugget was on the roost, hunkered down next to Snow and very obviously half asleep. So, since it will be in the teens, no need to leave the eggs out there to freeze.

Boy, Nugget is being very hard headed now isn't she? I doubt she is actually ready..she was just playing with you.

Keep in mind my incident when the hen buried her eggs in the shavings and moved her newly hatched chicks and then three days later I had three new chicks from COLD eggs!
