late afternoon i let my chicken out me and my wife .in joy watching the chickens pick around . i notice that they are getting farther way form the coop . it is cool with me but is there a trick keep them in the back yard and out of the font yard . can it be done or I'm i fighting a losing battle . the neighbors think nuts any way seeing running around the front yard chasing chickens . does not help my case .

Keep them fenced against predators (dogs, etc.) perhaps you can fence them to just the back yard as you seem to be in a suburban area. If you are rural, then you still must consider predators, if not neighbors. It's lovely to watch them peck around - but their safety must be considered. I love to watch mine, too. At sundown, they ask to go back into the coop - if I have closed the door, they wait in front of it.
