Yeah! Congrats!!!!

This is way longer than I expected a hatch to go. First pip was yesterday around 7am. I've had 4 hatch now, and 3 current pips that occurred over night. Of course, one lesson I've learned is to maybe find a different room than my bedroom for the bator. Because there is NO sleeping through a chick hatching, and then drying, as it chirps non stop without ANY REGARD to the time of night it might be!!!!!

We now have 4 Easter Eggers, and 2 Turken! One more Turken egg has pipped...no movement from the remaining eggs...but considering I had just about wrote them off, I'm pretty happy. Lesson learned...they will hatch when they want. Pretty sure they don't care that they've given me a 24 hour headache

Here is the first Turken, that ended up shrink wrapped and I had to remove it manually. Gah!!!

By the way, those first hatched chicks in the background started to peck on the remaining funk left after I removed it from the shell...so I placed it back in the bator for awhile, so it can gain some strength.

Gratz on your chickies! Yes, definitely give the little fella some time in the 'bator before being confronted with his clutchmates.

None of my 5 remaining eggs were alive, so this set-date is finished here. Considering how the temp had fluctuated during incubation, I'm grateful to get 50% hatch rate. And 4 of them were Silkie Xs [3/4 Silkie & 1/4 Ameraucana], so I'm thrilled! The 5th chick is an Easter Egger, 3/4 Ameraucana and 1/4 Silkie. Looks like a chipmunk with feathers on its legs. Pic to come later.

to all!

Totally exhausting. We were left with 11 that did not pip. Left them in the bator overnight, but nothing this morning. I used a stethoscope on them all and heard nothing. This is day 25, and unless I see something before noon, I'm going to call it quits on this bunch. So, final report (unless something happens), started with 30....18 shipped eggs, 12 from our young flock...down to 18 viable on day 16....hatched out 4 EE's and 3 Turken between day 23 and the final one hatched 7pm last night, day 24.

Considering we thought, at day 22, that all was lost, I guess we should be happy. This whole hatch was about getting a couple Turken...the ones from our flock were an afterthought. If just one of those Turken is a female, we'll be happy

Thanks everyone for following along. Couple weeks, I think we'll be setting some maran eggs...need those dark chocolate eggs to add to our basket!!

Agreed, exhausting indeed! I had very late quitters too, so weird! Who knows... Glad you had some hatch though!

Congratulations on the fuzzies

If you plan on getting marans eggs you should look for Charm 1704 at the Auction. She packs her eggs so well that even when they set out to destroy them they can't
