Someone was offering free silkie mixed chicks and I got them. I was planning on getting chickens one day, but not yet. I am trying to do a temp set up. The only heat light I have is the one below for reptiles. Right now, I have them in a plastic tote with pine shavings, water and the light above them. Will this work for now?

It should be fine, as long it provides enough heat, and you provide them enough space to get away from the heat should it become too warm. The one thing i would recommend getting is a thermometer to check whether it’s warm enough (or too hot) under the heat lamp.
