Setting 28 eggs tonight, feel free to join me.

The 1st chick is out.. just like last time, the first one came out yellow and quickly feathered out white...has a few darker spots....no idea if father is a barred rock or a java, but mother had to be a golden comet (or some type of red sex-link).

The other 40 eggs are being sung to and walked on.

My goal was 25 this time, but I was hoping for 28-32 out of 41....the next 36 hours should tell.

Congrats! This is making me feel a lot better about the 9 I have left

I was just in Austin, Texas....man the traffic there is bad....it was about like sitting around waiting for eggs to hatch!

I am thinking by morning I should have a bunch.

Well I am still at 1 baby. They were supposed to hatch on the 30th, how long do I leave them in there for before I have to give up?

You are going to have to put a couple mirrors in there with the one little one and maybe a stuffed animal. They are very social animals and need another one. I have had a single healthy chick die of loneliness. It quit eating and just laid there and cheeped loudly and until it got too weak and then died. I had a lone hatch last year and had three mirrors and a stuffed animal with him and held him every night and he thrived. He still has the stuffed animal with him even though he is with the other 26 outside. He still lays with it.

I actually bought him a friend. A little pullet. She is a bit bigger than him, but the seem to get along. So do you know when I should give up on the eggs?
