The Gold Orpington eggs have very distict red blood veins but the Blue Orpingtons were really badly beat up in shipping and several eggs were smashed. I don't see much happening in them! I'm not giving up yet though because the eggs are brown and I just might not be seeing anything yet! I am so excited or should I say egggcited

Way to go!!!

I am hoping the few I have that look like they have blobs are not bad already...these were shipped eggs and they arrived dirty and in poor condition, many of them are porous and clear looking but I am going to leave them in there as long as they don't start to smell! Several of the eggs came with blobs already in them, I am pretty sure that is NOT a good sign!

Mine were shipped eggs also, and when I candled them before incubating, some did have little blobs in them. The three I candled yesterday have MUCH larger blobs then what I had found in some of the eggs when I received them. I do have many porous eggs too.

our eggs do well!

I'm also going with the "if it doesn't stink, it's staying" strategy!

Great! You have given me more hope now!!! I also need to get a brighter light as I have brown eggs so that might help me see more veins, movement, etc. - here's hoping anyway!

I haven't taken any more recent picture, but here are pictures of some of the eggs, right before I put my eggs in the incubator. You can see many porous and some with dark shadows in them. Is this similar to what yours looked like?

Sure seems like 21 days is a really long time doesn't it??? lol

Today is day 6 for my 12 eggs. 5 of the 6 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes eggs from my birds are growing, and only 1 of my 6 shipped Partridge Wyandotte eggs is growing. The Partridge Wyandotte eggs were smashed in shipping, and the 6 eggs that were not broken were covered in rotten egg yoke, so I didn't expect any of them to grow. Glad I added a few of my own eggs so if this lone egg hatches it will have some buddies!

Fun to hear how every ones eggs are coming along!

Chickee - Hi!
In the eggs that were smashed or rather in the remainder where the contents real liquidy? A couple of the eggs I received in a beat up batch look thick and syrupey and look like they have veins but a couple look really liquidy and clear. I hope this makes sense! Are the real liquidy ones bad?
How long does it take a chicken egg to explode? My tortoise eggs can go a couple of months! Will the bad chicken eggs explode before the chicks hatch? I don't want anything to mess up the good eggs! How long do you wait till you chuck a clear egg?
Thanks for any help! With Tortoise eggs you never throw them unless they explode first! You just wait till they either hatch or explode! It is hard to candle a tortoise egg because you can't move it. The chicken eggs need to be moved! It is very new to me

I know exactly what you mean by liquidy. Those will likely not grow and the ones with veins that are syrupy will have a tough time making it. How far along are they? If you are seeing veins in some and not in others, then the clear ones are not fertile or most likely were too damaged to start growing. I always wait until day 7 or even day 10 if there is any question in my mind before tossing eggs, unless you can smell a bad odor. With chicken eggs it is real important to get the bad eggs out as soon as possible because if they do explode they will contaminate the rest of your eggs. The bacteria from the rotten egg will enter through the shells of the other eggs and eventually kill the developing embryos. I don't take my eggs out to candle because I have an Egg Lume high intensity candler and can shine the light down through the top of the egg and see the development inside. If you do handle the eggs to candle, be sure to always wash your hands well before you touch them so any bacteria on your hands does not get on the eggs.
Good luck with your eggs! I will be watching to see how they do

P.S. I LOVE TORTOISES!
