Setting 8/12 any buddies

Shayna - sorry for your news! But now I am really confused. I thought the humidity was supposed to be between 40% - 55% during incubation and then around 65% during "lockdown". I only had 16 out of 32 hatch and the humidity was way high 60% - 70% at the beginning so I let the water out and it dropped to 45% from day 5 to day 18. Most of the eggs never developed. The woman said the rooster to hen ratio is real good so they should have been fertile. Then when I put the water in, it lept up to over 80% and I tried to get it down but it stayed between 65% to 75% (took the plug out) and I still had 2 that had the harder white lining. I know you do not want it too high or you will cook and drown the chicks so what is the real humidity supposed to be so you don't cook them, drown them or shrink-wrap them. I am going to be doing more eggs Thursday and I want to make sure I have a better hatch. My hatch in June I had the humidity at 55% until lockdown and then it was at 70% and they all hatched but 2 pipped through their veins and bled out. I know it is much more humid now (in the air). Can someone give me advice?

Sounds like you are doing things right and it was the shipped eggs that were the problem. Good luck with your next hatch!

My last egg didn't hatch. Guess it was just too messed up from shipping. I am happy with the 4 chicks from my own Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. I started my bantam Polish eggs today but most likely won't have a good hatch because they arrived 2 days late. 4 days in the mail and one was rotten, so another bad batch of shipped eggs

Is someone trying to tell me to stop hatching for the season?

I had a disappointing hatch. I had two dozen eggs shipped to me. I have a friend with a great incubator and she agreed to hatch them out for me. Well due to a big thunderstorm and then hurricane Irene, the incubator went down not once, but twice!( My friend's husband went so far as to hook up the generator to the incubator to try and salvage the hatch!) So of the 25 eggs that arrived, two were cracked. So that left 23 into the incubator. I had just one of each breed to hatch out. But considering that the incubator went down twice I feel like I was lucky to get any babies. So now I have two little biddies. Question: Should I find some other babies to raise with them? If so, I'd have to do it today since I am off work. I have two runs with adult chickens right now that I plan to integrate them with down the road.

I have fuzzy butts!

We hatched out a barn yard mix for a friend. (Yellow chicks) Delaware Rooster over Easter Egger/Wyandotte/Buff Orpington hens. Anyone know if their are any sex-links with those combinations?
We also have an (gray) Olive Egger, (black) Black Copper Marans, and two silkies (not in photo).

Now that I have chicks to play with it makes the wait a little more bearable.

I will try to get better photos later. We are getting some much needed rain today here in TN. and my son is home for school.

Happy Labor Day everyone! I very much enjoyed hatching with you all!

If they stop for that long then they are stuck. If the membrane is turning brown then it has shrink wrapped. You will probably need to help it out. Good luck!

I started to get a bad feeling about it, so I started running a hot shower, and picked open the egg. I knew right away it wasn't going to be good. The egg was very hard and dry. It was hard to get into and there was no movement. I picked open the egg to find a fully developed baby with his head under his wing.

It's quite heartbreaking to incubate them for weeks to have this turnout. I don't think any of the other 4 eggs will hatch either. I'll try again sometime. I really wish I knew where I went wrong, the humidity never dropped below 65% during lockdown....

I'm so sorry you lost them

i know how that is first two hatches nothing they all died the third i got 3 it’s a learning process.
