Are those wood pellets you have the chicks on? How does that work for you? What is the advantage? Cost?

It is animal bedding pellets. I only use them in the brooder. I don't think that they are cost effective for the coop. They work well for chicks because you know how they get with water and making messes, the pellets absorb it very well. Here on the west coast they are about $5 bag.

That is not bad....will look for some.

Ok, got my eggs today for this hatch along..yaay..should see the eggs..would post a picture..but, I got a new computer..and not being the savvy computer type here...will have to wait until my son comes and shows me how to get my pictures started. Thought I had, but didn't show up in my pictures like the last computer..oh well..I will learn!

These eggs are all blue and a few olive colored, and the green/blue color..all of them. From a gal that is on here, and lives, semi~locally, had to meet somewhere for me to pick up my free 16 eggs.

Will set tonight since they weren't shipped.

Wait, bburn, you don't have a chicken picture here..you have a cute kitty... just sayin hi..

OK, I have been tinkering with the bator on and off all day. The temp and has been staying between 98 and 101 for the last couple hours and the humidity is staying right at 45-50%. If it stays stable until morning I may go ahead and set.

Yep....that is Oh, My Kitty, My Cat....she is an outstanding rescue cat....she is pretty interested in the new chicks since they are in the big bathroom....lol. But if I look at her looking at the chicks she turns tail and runs.

Ya'll are going to be setting eggs without me!

I have a problem and not sure what to do.

SIX eggs still in the incubator.

I candled and could not see anything in most of them. Blue one was impossible. Really dark one the same.

However, in one I could see difinate movement. Do you think I had a cooler spot in the incubator and this one is just going to be slow to hatch?

Or give it up????

The thing is throwing one out in the woods and hearing a peep would do me in I think! So, how do I know when to shut it down?
Had a great hatch. 32 in the brooder. One light bulb. One blood ring. And one I had to cull. (pretty good hatch considering I did it without knowing what the humidity was....could not get the dern thing to work)

It is the what if.......
