Two Nankin pips...

Someone posted a question a few posts back about the vent holes. The directions to my LG say remove BOTH vent plugs when going into lockdown but everything in read on BC says plug the holes up. Anyone have any pointers in this regard?

I usually open mine after a pip. I keep mine closed until then because having the vent open brings down the humidity. I am now having to keep watch with mine because I have two pips. Some say that this can cause the humidity to go up, but these are small bantam eggs.
Going now, to put the straw into the vent, then use a syringe to put more water on the sponge.

Probably going to be a black buff mix.

what color will that make it? doesn't matter just curious. it is super cute. had another speckled sussex hatch last night. i'm also going to have to put the first sussex down. it really isn't doing well.

but at least there are 2 babies that can keep each other company

Sorry Snazzy that it took me awhile to get back to you. My chicken left me a note told me that if I did not clean out the coop they were going on strike. So I think your little guy might look something like this.

yes. i took him to the vet for euthanasia. his legs didn't work and he kept flopping on his side. this am he was breathing hard so i know it was the thing to do. at least i didn't have to do it. i just held him. it was sad but at least we have 2 babies to keep each other company. i still have 4 eggs that are doing nothing. i think that temp spike really did a number on them. i'm really surprised i even had 3 hatch.
mj, that is a GORGEOUS bird. i would love it if it looked like that. is that a girl or boy?

I have both of mine out and humidity is at 65%. As long as it stays there I will leave it like that. If the humidity goes down I might put in a plug. My temps are staying pretty steady at 100.4 to 100.9.....sometimes it drops before the light comes back on. We always second guess ourselves at this point.

I am going to let it ride and see what happens from here. Lockdown started last night at 10pm. Meant to do it earlier but many things got in the way. One was getting the traps set. Caught a racoon.....probably the one that killed my broody hen and ate her eggs. The coop and runs are now Ft. Knox thanks to my SIL and Nephew the last two days. Will continue setting the traps.

Looking forward to fuzzy butts coming!

Ok, my humidity stays close to 55% with one plug in and one plug out. I think I will keep an eye on it when they start to pip. If the humidity goes up above 75% I should then take BOTH out right?

Sheesh, this can be confusing.
