Oh dear, you and me..I did this last night, up and down, watching my Nankins hatch..like snazzy said..bantams do hatch early, often.
Now, my Ameraucanas are taking their time.
I have some beautiful combinations going on. The fist one is a silvery/blue stripe..you know, the usual stripe with the pretty eyeliner. Then I have one that looks like it will be a light blue, or a splash..not sure. I have a black, and three blues..

Still have 4 that are pipped. I have one that is staying in the bator tonight to hopefully soak up this very large, still attached yolk sac. This baby came out like all the others, screaming, squirming around. This was earlier today. Still..very active. It does look as though it has absorbed some. Hoping that by morning it will have finished that up! This one is a pure black also..come on baby!

Fell asleep to one out and woke up to three out. Could not even count the pips, kept getting confused and one was zipping.

I have precious cargo in this incubator. My DGD's blue EE eggs....not just ee but BO over EE! She talked her grandfather into buying these earlier this year and she paid him back. The lone blue egg did not hatch on the last one and this is the whole reason for this hatch....except DH, who is out of town, said to filler up!

So, we have also the rest of the mixed MOB's eggs. BO rooster over some RIR's and one partridge rock, on Dark Cornish(RIP) and the two EE's.

Then some BR's and the ever precious Cochins.

Fourty eggs. EGGciting!

Now....time for another nap...right after checking on the chicks!

You were right! The two I thought had given up are out of the shell and fuzzy!

In fact I got a surprise from one of them. He is a black sex link roo. Turns out that the RIR roo that had gone home more than two weeks before that egg had been collected, had some seed that were strong swimmers!

Now, what is your head count now?? I was wondering how long eggs would continue to be fertile. I rehome my BR roo because he was meaner than all get out and I started marking the BR eggs so I would know when he left.

DH just got off work and called me. I had three out and moved to the brooder at last count. I said ok look, there are three more. Got off the phone with him and went back and what I could see were dry looking and there was fog on the windows. Felt safe enough to open and snatch....lol.....there were SIX more. So nine in the brooder. Humidity still up around 75.....so it's good. Now there is enough room that I WILL not open as they won't be having to lay on eggs. They will but they won't have to.

One BR, two Cochins....the rest are from the MOB...the mixed flock with a BO roo. BUT...one came out of a blue egg! My DGD's egg. The hen is almost white with some light grey so this chick is really light.

I can only see a few eggs w/o pips.

29 to go!

My special needs daughter will be up today for mothers day.....she is going to be thrilled! So.....it's time to get to cooking.

Orange Cream Cheese pound cake was requested. Happy, happy hatching!!

Here is my update so far.

I went to do some shopping yesterday afternoon.... came back had one pip

but kinda near the middle of the egg. could here it chirp. Now I fear it may have quit.

This am I have 4-5 other pips from what I can tell. and occasionally I can here them peep. so excited cause its my first hatch.

the humidity did go up on its own from 55 to over 60 with the first pip now its about 70. i opened the vent holes and its staying stable in there.

last night i was like the mother hen... getting everything ready... cleaning waters feeders there brooder cage, ect.... my hubby said he hasn't seen me this happy in a long time.

soooo hatch you little buggers! I want to see you!

Keep and eye on that one that you think quit. Mine did the same thing yesterday around 11am....did not hatch until around 9pm last night. I thought it was a goner!

I have 13 out of 40 hatched right now. Gave up counting the pips! When there are two or three in there zipping and coming out of their shells the humidity spikes. It does go back down to around 70 after a while. Both plugs are out. Going to give the two that are hatched another hour or so and snatch them out through the window if the humidity is high enough. Have 11 in the brooder and two in the incubator. Many, many more pips.

What a great Mother's Day present.

We are at 12 now with 4 still in the bator. One of those has pipped and is starting to zipp. No activity yet from the other 3

I have heard that chickens can lay fertile eggs as much as 3 weeks after the roo is gone. I had 4 Barred Rock eggs in this hatch. One of them came out as a black sex link so I know his daddy is the RIR. The other three came out yellow two with black spots the other without spots. Their daddy had to be Col. Sanders, my EE roo.
