Setting eggs 6/11 and 7/4 - Join me!

Can you receive packages to it as well? I know you said letter size, but what happens if someone ships something larger to you??
Yes you can. The eggs I have ordered they hold in the back and just put a slip in my box saying they have a pakage that doesn't fit in my box. Plus any other pakages they will leave a key in my box to one of the bigger boxes they use.

Excellent, that makes it a lot easier for me to make a decision. I can definitely rent a box then, and maybe I will do that tomorrow after work.

As for myself... I am not sure when the person sending me eggs is going to send them and the date for the turkeys going in for butcher is drawing near, so last night I just set the 5 eggs I collected from her last week, along with the 2 peafowl eggs from my own pen that no one wanted. I got a report back from the first person I mailed eggs to that none of them had started, so I am going to see if these two start at home- if they don't, then I will assume it's the birds and not the shipping that totaled her eggs. Hoping to hear better news from the second person I mailed to though.

I know I won't be able to keep any peas that hatch from these particular eggs though... so now I have to consider if I want to just check and see that they've started growing by cracking the eggs at 12 days, or letting them try to hatch and trying to find homes for the chicks.

You can also rent for half a year as well.

In Lock down..6 of the 16 Silkie shipped eggs look good. I'm having a hard time with temp! I have 3 thermometers in the bator. 2 digital and one regular one that came with it. They all had different readings and were in different places in the bator. Some on the wire and some on the eggs. On the mesh wire said 99, and on the eggs they went up to 104...so it was making me crazy! I now only have one digital in the middle of the bator and the regular one ...digital says 99 and other says 100...that's what I went by with my last hatch and it worked well! So I hope all is well this time! Will know in the next 48 hours!

What type of chickens are you locking down?

As for my little eggies, I emptied out all clear eggs today. Two have good looking air cells. One has half of a saddle shaped aircell, so I hope that one hatches okay. (But who knows...those can go either way.) I also added water to the well, since it has been pretty dry around here and I can't keep the humidity up in the bedroom where the 'bator is. I have a tray liner, and it is really hard for me to see the water level. I added a small amount of food coloring in hopes of making it easier to judge the reservoir level. So far it does seem easier to see. (I didn't overfill this time. Yay!) I had been planning on trying a dry hatch, but we're in Northern CA and it has been dry and windy.

I should be getting the mutts later this week, and some mutts with lavender d'uccle eggs late this week or early next week. I wish I knew someone with a spare incubator, but it looks like we'll be trying a staggered hatch as well this time. It isn't worth buying one, and the 4H office rents them, but they're pretty far away. We'll call this an experiment.

Anyone else getting excited? I plan on getting a brooder set up this weekend. Can't wait. :)

I am pretty stoked! I am thrilled that my eggs look good so far, and hope everyone else is having good luck. I will be locking them down Sunday (for a Wednesday hatch date, but being bantams they could go earlier) and will have my brooder ready Sunday night as well in case of any early birds. Figure if it is all set up and ready to roll, half the battle of nail biting will be over. :D

My sizzle eggs are on lockdown and are suppose to hatch tomorrow...

Tonight and tomorrow will be "running into the office to check every five minutes" day.
