I don't have a very good candler, so maybe that's it.

Thanks. Yep. Know how that goes. I was hoping for four more eggs to add to this set but the hens laid a double yolker between them and then took a day off! Hah! Foiled again! I'm hoping for four or five female chicks to hatch out of fourteen eggs I set my expectations low so as not to be too disappointed if things go sideways later on.

They were dead, day 23. Eggs were beginning to go cold even in the bator. I think when he pipped internally he didn't have the energy to do anything else and suffocated himself. But the other baby died on lockdown it seems. So tiny and frail.

BUT I had 5 more go on lock down last night!! Let's hope to have some babies on friday!
Durr..Sorryaout yur last hatch...it happens ....the little guy could have been shrink wrapped if they die at the very last sometimes it is.
How long was he pipped?if its over 24 hours i would assist

Keep the humidity up to 65 at least. and dont open the bator
Better luck on this hatch!

Well, I'm not sure how well this hatch is going to go. I've had a difficult time maintaining temps in my bator this go round :/ Its been very cold here in Va, and at night the temp in the bator has been dipping. It hasn't gone below 98°, and when I just candled everyone appears to still be alive. From past experience, all the Silkie eggs I've ever hatched have been pretty temperamental. I covered the bator with a towel in hopes I can get the temp back up to 100. :barnie I've even cranked the heat in the house, but stupid baseboard heating only goes so far!!!

Maybe try shinning a heat lamp on the bator and see if it helps...what kind of bator do you have?
