Setting eggs August 2 -- anyone else?

sixth and seventh are out.

Six black or blue (I'm having difficulty telling at this stage) and one splash.

I have one splash egg, one blue or black egg, two whites, and three buffs with not much going on yet.

Turns out that out of the 11 that hatched, 6 are hens, 4 are cockerels and 1 I am unsure of :3 Not too shabby seeming as our last batch turned out to be mainly cockerels.

I'd say anything better than 50/50 in favor of hens is pretty good. I have zero experience with silkies but I've heard they are difficult to tell cockerels vs. pullets until they crow. I've been pretty accurate with my other chicks just by watching their personalities. I've pegged one splash as a rooster already but we'll see.

i added a cool mist humidifier to my incubation room is this a good idea there really was no humidity in the room i have it. hope im doing everything right.

I'm certainly not the one to ask. This is my third try at incubating eggs. The first two tries, I hatched zero eggs. I finally broke down and bought a Brinsea Octagon 20 Advance EX with humidifier. It's an incubator for dummies. Pretty much idiot proof it seems.

Awesome to read about all of your hatches.

I got my seventeen shipped chicks on Wednesday. Four of my BCMs hatched that afternoon -- I ended up with five of those, three dead in their shells. Humidity fluctuates so wildly here that I had an awful time with it and am pretty sure that's where I went wrong this time around. My RIR hen, SLW roo crosses hatched and are doing well. One Cream Legbar made it -- a female. Wheaten Marans are not looking good.

I hatched out three silkies a little over a month ago and feel pretty certain about their sex. The one I'm pretty sure is a male is larger, has a faintly red comb and likes to go around showing all the much-larger-than-him birds how unafraid he is. I named him Brutus.

I'll try to get some pics soon.

Still no change in my early piper it is day 20 was worried this morning but I still get a response when I tap the glass and make peeping noise hopefully it's ok in there I just want it born healthy ! So hard not to know what's going on for those of us outside the glass lol. Wondering if it is still absorbing yolk or gonna hatch today or what! Ugh the suspense!!!!!! Oh well maybe it's ok as long as still responding!! Come on babies I'm ready to see you!!
