Setting eggs June 3rd. Need hatching buddies! Lets have some fun!

I set my eggs in bator last evening, of all things we lost power today I freaked, we have never lost power here. I think all is fine tho it is so warm I didn't lose much heat, just a few more grey hairs no worries

My eggs are supposed to arrive today in the mail. So if they do and have a chance to settle overnight. I'll be setting tomorrow.

I can't wait. 30 Blue Laced Red Wyonettes!!!!! I just love the look of that bird.

All in my Little Giant so here's to 21 sleepless, nervous days. Last bast worked out to about 68% hatch from shipped eggs for my first try didn't think that was too bad.

I love the BLRW too!!!! 68% is great for shipped eggs and your first time!! WTG!

I'm trying to get caught up on your thread, but I'd love to join!!!

I hatched 12 out of 15 of my Light Brahmas on April 29th, my first hatch ever. Now I'm TOTALLY addicted, lol....

2nd batch set 5/12, started to hatch yesterday, still coming today. Some neighbor eggs (6 Ameraucans), 11 of my Light Brahmas, 20 purchased Salmon Faverolles and 4 purchased Dorkings. I'm still holding off on a few eggs. Fingers, toes crossed and now my eyes from peaking in all the time, lol... So far 5 Ameraucanas hatched, one quitter. 7 LB hatched, 2 quitters, 2 not pipped yet. Pulled 4 of 20 SF on day 8/clear, left me with 16- hatched 10, 1 not looking good, 1 quitter, 5 eggs not pipped. 2 Dorkings hatched, 2 eggs not pipped yet.

3rd set 5/23, due to hatch 6/14. 28 of my LB's and 8 purchased Dorkings.

But I also set on June 2nd, 23 of my LB's and 5 purchased Birchen Marans.

As you can see I'm in deep, but I only planned on the SF as a second breed to my LB's. The seller was short and we agreed to sub Dorkings, after reading about them I wanted to order a few more. Then well, I actually was messing around on ebay and bid a whooping $2.00 on the Marans and won, not really thinking about shipping, blah...... I have 3 bator and hope to add chicks, pullets, hens and eggs to my small farming plan. We or family will eat the roos. I have a friend that will process them for us in return for a few of them, works for us.

I am a bit concerned my Birchens came in really good shape. I put them in a safe cool place until I could get the bator up and going. Then got called into work, got home from work and had a horse down with colic, had to be back to work at 7am and am chores had me up early and I totally forgot to turn my Marans for 2 days. YIKES... When I took them out of the packing, which was shredded newspaper they had bleached in color. All were in tact and stable but too dark to candle and not sure what I'd be looking for at that point, so any input on my mess up will be helpful. They may be junk now, who knows. But the LB's should be fine.

Anyway, thanks for all the hatching buddies. I'm most def still learning!!! Any of you more seasoned hatchers have an input, like pros/cons of dry incubation? Thanks!!! Happy hatching all!!!!!

I officially set today. Have 22 eggs from Taylor Farms that I won in the raffle earlier..... so fortunate to have these eggs and especially now after the hatch that we're loving right now.

I don't know if there are any "official rules" for this hatch-a-long but if we can let everyone know how many of what we're doing... that seems to be super helpful.

As I'm typing this I realize that I haven't got too much of an idea how many of each I have but this is what we set:

White Leghorns
Lav Orps
BLBrahmas
Barred Rock
BCMarans
Jersey Giants
Ameracaunas

(and that's it until the 18 show up hopefully tomorrow... they'll go in too!) Ooooooh Yippeeeee Skipppyyyyy!!!

Wow, everyone is on their way. Super fun! I candled my eggs today to see what was cookin'. Two in the homemade bator are looking goodm the other three....nada. Those five were questionables that couldnt fit in my brinsea mini. My 7 other eggs are ALL looking great! I do have one question though, I came home from the store yesterday and the homemade bator had spiked to 102.9...should I worry? Did the temp get too high for them to survive? We are on day 3 so far.

I set a batch of 35 on June 1. I've been having a lot of trouble with my incubator staying at the right temp. It's typically within the acceptable range, but it's been irritating to find it slightly above and below a couple of times. I'm a crazy mama hen getting up all through the night to check on my eggs and make sure the temp is good. I for sure news a wireless therm so i don't have to run down to the basement every time i need to check on them.

I candled them today and saw blood vessels in quite a few!! Here's hoping for a successful hatch!

my hatch right now that I'm enjoying took 4 sets of eggs that were 0%...... nonesies. Big fat Zero. And it was all because of the temperatures. I was up/down/up/down/up..... it makes me nuts. I started reading and absolutely living by the cheat sheet by ChooksChick and doing dry incubation. Right after doing that.... first hatch success. I will never ever ever ever change the temp on my incubator by turning something up or turning down unless it's ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. There will be some fluctuation..... will try to get a link on here to the cheat sheet. It's saved my egg's lives and my brain!
