Setting eggs May Day 5/1 want to join me?

I am no expert by far, but I would wait a few more days as sometimes you can't see the veining till Day 7 or so....also, the egg color makes a difference in what you are able to see......Good luck and welcome....

I will be setting more on 5/5 or 5/6. The eggs just arrived, via usps, and I will have to let them rest for a day or two.

Thanks! DH thinks I'm being paranoid... I probably am, LOL! I've got 6 "barn yard mix" eggs and 6 Americuana eggs- out of all of them, only 1 is white- but I can clearly see the yolk-mass in all of them. All the images (online) I've seen for 3day old eggs have veins, so I'm _hoping_ I havent done anything wrong.

Can I join also?

I put 12 eggs in the cabinet incubator. Whole lota empty space for 12 eggs! My brinsea is in lockdown. So I will move them into the brinsea. I believe that will be a little more eco-friendly. I am settig 6 silkies, (partridge I think) 3 d'uccles (black mottled, self blue, and porcelain) and 3 BCM marans. I think I will be doing a staggered hatch because I am going to add another dozen eggs in about a week.

How is everyone doing? I have a hatching addiction!

Oh joneus:

Hi and welcome, joneus and ginormous

I think we spend lots of time worrying about things like humidity this early in the incubation process because there is little else to do other than turn the eggs. Temporary drops in humidity are not likely to be a problem, it's the level over time that counts. I run mine about 45-50% in a small tabletop incubator with a fan, and have done just fine.

I also do not candle until day 7. Just my feeling, but the bright lights we use could be irritating to the embryos, so I try to keep candling on each egg very short and don't candle more than once a week. I also don't candle at lockdown (day 18).

More d'ucles! Pictures ASAP when they hatch please!

I think you are ok

I just wouldn't add any more.

This is only my third hatch so I'm not an expert but I've learned a lot in the two hatches I have done. PLUS I am a Chemistry teacher so I am always researching!

Ok, thanks Itsazoo32...Appreciate your input! I will just leave it alone, it has been solid at 29% all day today.....Can't wait to candle and see if the are viable!

I agree.. I think it was soo easy to stress over it my first hatch. The second was easier and this one I haven't even checked but 1 time a day

I will wait until this weekend and candle for signs of life. Chuck the ones that have none and return the others for 7 more days. I am going to handle as little as possible this time and try try try to not open the bator until most chicks are out. I've had a couple of shrink wrapped babies and that is so heart breaking

I candled today. I usually wait until day 7 but in my defense, this is a new breeder so I wanted to check. Looks good!

I can get used to this whole cabinet incubator thing! This cabinet could do like... 80 eggs! But I will be turning them all by hand!

That is a lot of turning! It is not a true poultry incubator, so humidity is an issue. It takes it sooooo... much longer than the brinsea to come back up. The temp is really good. It is my DH's and you don't turn lizard eggs so, it is pretty much meant to stay closed.

I will be adding 3 BCMs 3 Wellies 6 Barnies to the mix soon.
