Setting eggs May Day 5/1 want to join me?

Autoturners are a lot less work, but honestly I love turning the eggs (only 43 this time, had 56 last hatch). My sister swears that it you talk to them you get a better hatch

I...will...not...candle... (have to repeat this every time I open the incubator

My first hatch I hand turned 30 eggs... 25 hatched!! (these were fresh from the chicken eggs)

The second I used the auto turner and only 20 or so of 33 hatched (these were shipped eggs)

Too many variables to determine if the hand turning or auto turning made the difference. I think it's got to do more with the shipped eggs honestly.

20 of 33 is good for shipped eggs, anything over 50% is bonus.

Spent the afternoon finishing off my chick house so that I could get the 17 younger chicks out of my garage; still have the 5 two month old ameracaunas out there, they go out during the day though. Still have to figure out where the ones in the spare bedroom are going, maybe the weather will warm up soon and they can go into an outdoor pen (got down to 30 last night).

The Lt Brahma's that were shipped were AWESOME!! I bought 12, got 15 and had 12 hatch (I think)... you know what's funny is I haven't even counted the Brahmas!! LOL.. There are just a lot of them

Well, I candled my eggs tonight (day 3).....I have 14 chicken eggs in the bator....I can see veins on 3 of them (2 of which I could see a heartbeat too!)...I saw air cells in most of the remaining, couldn't see real well in the darker eggs though.....I also have 2 guinea eggs I am incubating to check for fertility as my in-laws don't know if they have any boys in the flock or not......

How is everyone else doing....

Nothing new with the May 1st set. I think I have finally figure out the humidity for the cabinet. It is a bit tricky. My brinsea is on day 21. I am so excited!

I am waiting for a pip! I am also terrified they are all dead b/c I did something stupid. (I don't think I did.

) The humidity is only holding for a couple hours at a time and drops (is this normal so close to the end of a hatch?) I am at 65% right now.

After the first one hatches, the humidity will sky rocket and stay there. it will go up to like 90% or higher!! I have a tough time with that because then the chicks never seem to DRY.
