Oh! I have a funny story to share about this hatch. When I took the hatcher apart to clean, I never put the 'door hardware' back on. So, it was just 'there'.
Last night, about 2:30, Lily started barking and I woke up enough to tell Tom to "go see if the dog needs to go out".
He came right back to the bedroom with a CHICK!
Darby had got excited about the hatching chicks
(she spends a lot of time doing this
when chicks are hatching)
and knocked off the hatcher door and a chick must of fallen out (or maybe the door just fell off, but it had to have some 'help').
I didn't see it, but Tom said Darby was in the floor curled around the chick, with Lily (Darby's grown daughter) laying next them. The cats were in their crate for the night and stretching paws through the door to try to reach the chick. Lily was barking at the cats when they stuck out paws.
It must have just happened, because the thermometers were reading 89* and 91*. The chick was fine and I don't even know which one it was now.
Chicks are still in hatcher and this hatch is ongoing (draggy).
Good luck!
