Setting Eggs on April 24th!!!! Who wants to hatch along w/me???

Hey peeps...

I have to say now that my first hatch is over, this has been bittersweet. I had 5 eggs that did not hatch by end of day 21. I removed the live babes, and watched them. I kept thinking I saw movement..but just was not sure.

I opened them to find 4 fully developed, featherd babies. One looked a bit behind...

But my heart sank...knowing the movement I "thought I saw" was REAL! I feel awful!

I am not sure if I completely shrink wrapped em,they were moving, but membrane tough. Humidity was doing good, I thought.

I did not think I would be this upset, but geez it just really makes you sad...now I know how so many others have felt...

But all not lost. I need to look at the fact that I set 15 eggs, hatched 10. And throw in my learning curve, and my "dinky-bator" and I do feel lucky to have hatched ANYTHING!

Just feel sorry for the little guys, feel like I gave up on em...

Please someone make me smile!!!

Awwww Scubadeaux, I am so sorry you went through that

But you are right, you had a pretty good hatch for the first time.
My hatch a month ago was my first and I shrinkwrapped a couple and it is very sad

but things happen for a reason, maybe they weren't going to be very strong chicks.

Your next hatch will be better, I just know it!

I am gonna give my fallen peeps a proper burial today...and maybe, just maybe pop a few eggs from my "non-sitting" gals in the bator.

You know for good therapy...think hubby will fall for it??

Dear Scuba, I had that same feeling when I tossed eggs this morning....
Could I have done better, did I screw up....and then quickly went to see my hatched babies.........

Factually, we all did our very best.......
I know I learned a lot
and if it were a test based on caring....we all recieved an A+
I think you did GREAT!!!!!!!

Later,
Toni

Having you all as hatching buds has helped so much!!! I don't feel alone through this, and let's just admit it, wearing out the family here!!

Well my fallen babes were white, what I dearly wanted. I did get 2 maybe whites. Kinda iced my cake there, but I am sure these guys will be hatching me out some next year. Something definitely to look forward to.

Soooooo Mayberrygirl...I am living vicariously through you right now...how are you doing?????

missred871, wondering what your count is now??

Bantamfarmer, how are you and your broody?

the never ending hatch should be the name of our thread!

LOL, no rolling since last night... they are due tomorrow - my LG with my silkies in it still won't settle on 99.5* so as soon as the hatch is done in the hovabator over they go.I need to get the pics up of the brooder and the barred rocks, they are doing so good! Much better then the ones I bought at TSC! The experience from start to finish is so much more exciting when you hatch them out yourself.

Yes, I think we all did good!!!

and we should be proud of ourselves!!!!!!!

Here are the rocks, we were able to tell sex by when the wing feathers started growing. In rocks the pullets will get wing feathers much faster then the males-
