HI everyone,

Scub, I sent you a PM....
Not much going on
The hen that is setting out side is near a window....nice so I can check on her easily. Anyway, I opened the window this evening and could hear her quietly talking..sounded like she was singing to her chicks........
So....I am thinking hatching soon.....It is so sweet I so love watching those broody's. Much more pleasent than watching the incubater....

I really enjoy the pictures.Still trying to learn how to do mine so I can share.

Also wanted to tell you that I did not lose as many chickens as I thought. About 8 were missing and I thought for sure they were coyote dinner. That was Friday....................Then Saturday a few I thought were gone showed up.Sunday night another one..........then two more.
Late this afternoon we were leaving in the car and saw a BO was chasing us. We stopped and went to the barn to figure out how she escaped and realized she is one of my 8 month olds I thought was gone.
I have no idea where that little stinker has been.....and she would not tell.....

But I was so happy to see her I caught her and gave her a big kiss on the top of her head.
Will let you know if I have chicks tomorrow.

still have some hatching from the staggered batch I started at the end of april. Sheesh....that one hen who was laying while everyone else was sitting, she was eating eggs for a while and we caught her and locked her up now shes out and about and shes been sneaking her eggs into the other girls nests. lol. I got one out today that was not yet developing, one has bullseyed, one has developed veins, and 1 is still in there not sure if it will hatch or not but it looks like if it will, well I will need to help it out...air sack is not nearly as developed as it should be we were having a problem with the girls staying on the right nest for 3 days, they went cold 3 times, I am amazed that I found one pipped today, waited most of the day went back to check on it, well. Saran wrap. I cant understand that since it has been raining here most of the day. POOP. I have made an attempt to rescue him hes out of the egg and absorbing all the good stuff. I have the silver chick out right now on the couch, hoping that the chirping will help the poor new little guy. Silver surfer decided that he was going to crawl under my shirt and sleep LOL. Well i will post pics of the new baby once hes dry.

Hi everyone,
Well, if I could not laugh at myself..I would be angry at myself.
I have not prepared ahead for the broody's and thier chicks.
The first broody is still hatching babies.
She does not have a name because she is not mine.
I chicken sat for my friends who are snowbirds.....
Anyway, I have chicks in the extra bedroom.and have not set anything up for Mom and chicks............
They are fine for a short term where they are...........but cannot bring the hen in the house......
I have two large dogs that are not chicken friendly.
and we are fighting a rat and squirrle problem in the barn..................
I know they would kill the babies in a split minute.
Guess I will make it to home depot and see what I can figure out...maybe with pegboards........

Life use to be easier.have had geese in the shower chicks in the bathtub, baby pigs and orphan lambs
next to the wood stove. Our situation is different now.

Sorry, thinking out loud.
Any suggestions for a quick brooder is welcome.
Chickens here, chickens there chckens, chickens everwhere.
At least I am giving m husband a good laugh.
