Setting eggs on FEB 10

I think it is possible to have the air cells on the wrong end but I don't know what your suppose to do with those.

Most of the Polish are no good. Only 5 started and 3 of those are wierd. I can see veins coming down from the air cells? I've got 2 of my own eggs doing great and I can only see inside 10 of the quail eggs and they are developing. The other probably are to. I had to throw out 2/4 silkie eggs for blood rings.

My serama eggs came! I got 16 and thankfully only 2 had damaged air cells. I'm about to set those in the new bator. I also ordered a dozen duck eggs. I've kind of gotten in deep.

I Googled some examples of each.

Really obvious veining in this pic. Most eggs wont be THAT contrasting. The darker the egg the less visable.

Wow, those are really helpful.

I've got the flu really bad so my SOs been adding water and I haven't candled yet. When you candle, do you take all the eggs out at once? One at a time? How do you deal with them getting chilled?

I take them out one at a time and since the temps inside are moderate and each egg is not out too long so they don't get too cold. A lot of incubators have cool down functions to copy mom getting off of the nest. Mine doesn't , but to me its no worse then a cool down which a lot of people say is good for the eggs.

This is Rosie, one of the local bought silkie chicks and my favorite of the three. She's going to be a real beauty!

This is Thelma, one of my EE's.

Heres a pic with BOTH of the seramas framed by some of the others.

THANK YOU for the blood ring pictures! Those are very helpful, but I want to know WHY mine can't be THAT obvious lol! I just candled again and am very surprised! I have 3 coronation sussex eggs, and of the 3 I'm pretty confident 2 are on track, the other seems as though the air cell is still mobile and never reattached. If I see the air cell moving, and see nothing else, should I remove it? I also have 2 swedish hen eggs. 1 is the hairline crack that wasn't clear through the shell that I packed with wax. I'm on the fence with that egg. The other one was a very oblong, oddly shaped egg with some ridges. I figure it was an extra because hey, ya just never know. I'm pretty sure it has a blood ring in it. Is that common for eggs such as that? What does a blood ring signify? Was fertile but didn't develop properly? Of my 3 lemon cuckoo orpingtons, I'm positive 2 are good to go (1 I hollared for my husband to come witness the chicky wiggling around inside) and the 3rd I'm leaning towards good to go as well. It's just the 2 I'm thinking could/should be removed. What do ya'll think?

How is everyone elses turns going so far? Any eliminated? If everything continues, as of this moment, we could get a 6/8 hatch. Better than our 0/4 last turn huh? lol. OH and I'm sold on an auto turner lol. I'm just glad we finally got our temp stabilized, but now I'm concerned about lock down humidity. Since they've been up right in a turner, should I raise the grate in the bottom to approximately the same level so the temp readings will remain accurate and lay them down or put them in altered egg cartons?

Blood rings happen when bacteria invades an egg.

This hatch....oh hehehe. Out of what I started with 2 silkies are doing okay, 5 of the Polish tried but I think only 1 is still working and 2 of my own polkies ( Polish/ silkies) ;) are doing outstanding. It's hard to say on the 21 quail.
Its too soon to know about the 16 seramas I put in 2 days ago. I ordered 12 Muscovy duck eggs that are being shipped Tom. I just won an auction for 6+ gorgeous D'uccles and might win a Polish auction. So......EGGS! I meant to replace my old incubator but now I am running 2. Someone needs to hogtie me. LOL.

Dadgummit. I went with the built in thermometer and mercury thermometer because I figured better a bit cool then too high until the better thermometer came in. It came in. I've had my new incubator at 95° for a few days. Uh oh. I had the Polish moved to that one when I set 6 of the serama in there. They were alive last night but I dunno about the serama.

GRRR!! What do you do when you have 3 different thermometers reading 3 different temperatures! lol That's what I had issues with at first. Maybe it'll just slow them down a little and they'll be OK regardless.
