Setting eggs on FEB 10

I bought them for 20¢ each at a swap meet and the Guy threw in extra so I got 22 for 3.00. Quail are really cheep here. I just about choke looking at prices on here and Amazon. They mature at about 6-8 weeks and start laying then. They are prolific layers. I was going to sell mine...but I change my mind. I want to build a quail coop. I'm in love! I just have to figure out what kind of coop they need. If you want some I could always get some at a swap meet, we have them usually twice a month and try out shipping for you.

20 cents... huh. James Marie Farms sells them for $0.75-$2.00 an egg, which is not bad, but... 20 cents. Wow. At that price you could actually make money buying eggs, hatching out, selling adults. Or eggs/meat.

Jealous of your quail, they're really cute! I did some quail research and still couldn't really decide if I wanted wire or deep litter. I think if you go big you go wire just because quail need such a clean environment, but I feel guilty about raising anything solely on wire. Let us know what you figure out with the coop situation. I've also heard some horror stories about disease between quail/chickens/other poultry, so that backed me off from quail for a few more months.

Well I am done with the quail portion of my hatch. 10/21 alive and well... not great numbers. 11 hatched but one died. I had 5 infertile, I think the temp spike killed 3- they died at about that time and 2 that just couldn't hatch. I hope my chickens fair better.

Oh my gosh, they are so tiny!!! How cute!

I think I will just build an aviary style coop for my little sweeties. I don't know why I didn't anticipate them being THAT precious.

So I finally got done with hatching quail and had a nice breather.... Now... WHY U NO HATCH CHICKENS?!

OK I'm pretty sure (If I'm not crazy which the verdict is still out on) I heard a "chirp" come from inside the incubator! Humidity is staying between 60-62% and temp 97!

Ugh, why chickens, whyyyy. I have an egg that pipped today... pretty sure it's 1 day early. These kids need to learn to hatch at the right times

Off topic but I can't get over my 3 year singing along with the Gilmore Girls theme song.

Now what I was about to say is that the early pipper will probably be just fine. The others will likely be right behind.
