Setting eggs on FEB 10

Hi Emi! Don't be too afraid of the postal service. My boyfriend orders things through them all the time and his boxes are NEVER damaged. But of course the one that has "fragile" written on every side of the box is completely smashed. My boyfriend was flabbergasted when he saw it. I also got a 100% hatch rate from that box!!!! I just assisted my lucky number 7 marans egg to hatch last night! She was totally upside down in the egg. I still can't believe they all made it!

I don't know why this Marans is lighter than all the others. I wonder what color she'll/he'll be.

My husband is going to build me a bigger brooder before the next hatch out. As of now I have three seperate smaller ones to keep from overcrowding. They got a bit grumpy at first and a chick had a toe get pecked so bad she lost the toe!!! They are fine now that I added a third bin and sold a few chicks. I don't know how you keep the peace!

Do any of you Virginia dwellers live near Norfolk?

Also, Heather and Victoria, I kept the humidity from anywhere between 25% - 40% until a few days before lockdown. I don't know if that had anything to do with my success though. Good luck you guys!!

Ahhh I love those little guys! Especially the little light one, what a surprise

Actually, that's really encouraging about the 100% hatch rate with a box that looked like that. Um... maybe you could give as all the details of your hatch so we can replicate?

Very jealous of your husband building you a brooder! I mostly use huge cardboard boxes, an old screen cage I have, rubbermaid containers, those kinds of things. Last month I built a 2x8 wooden brooder that I really like and want to wall-mount it for better access. But right now I've got so many chickens in there that I'm worried they're going to start pecking each others toes off. So far so good, though, and all very healthy. You don't want to know how many are in there. Let's just say I will be doing much more planning ahead in the future...

And it's funny, I am on the complete opposite side of the state as Norfolk, I'm in Independence. A whole bunch of people in the area are from Virginia Beach, though.

I am probably going to set around 20 eggs tomorrow afternoon. What time are you guys setting?

Ah. I was wondering. I have a sister that lives in Norfolk.

I probably wont get to set until tomorrow evening. I'm going to an out of town swap meet for poultry and livestock in the morning and then since we are in. My mothers town we will be visiting.

I started to take a pic of a Phoenix chick when one of my seramas was like " hey... whatchya doing? Can I see?"

Okay, just have to show one of the "miracle" babies off... there are 7 of them, but this one is my absolute favorite.

Buff Orpington roo over a Brown Leghorn. Of course, the way things go, it's probably a cockerel

Can't wait to see if more will hatch this next time around.

For some reason the humidity built up while it was closed and escaped when you opened it... The base temp. and humidity for the room my incubator is in is 70-75° and 30-35%.
