Setting Eggs On March 7, anyone else??

This is hatch day for me. I have only 3 pips so far out of 32 eggs. I haven't candled since day 14 & since my very first time incubating, wasn't sure what I was seeing so leery about culling any of them (although started w/ 33 and actually did see a blood ring on 7 day candling so culled one). I can hear peeping. Hoping to see more pipping before day is thru. Eight of my eggs went in bator 2 days late so not sure how early lockdown will affect them but we'll see. All eggs came thru mail so I'm not expecting the moon, but am very excited about pipping I do have. Wish me luck.

You can call him/her "Jamie" and it would work for either gender.

And, my son just announced that "his baby chicken" is going to be named James. (After one of his Thomas the Tank Engine trains). Lets hope that James is a roo. haha!

It's possible that the humidity fluctuated too much in the early stages of this batch. I've been checking the hygrometer more frequently since then and doing a better job of keeping it in the correct range; the embryos in later eggs seem more active. The temperature has been stable. I have a couple of aquarium thermometers in there as well as the fancier type that keeps track of the high/low temp and humidity for the past 24 hours. Humidity variation is the only thing I can think of besides "it happens" as a reason for them to have died. I shall endeavor to do better for my later hatches!

The fuzzies that I did get are so cute that it mostly compensates for the ones that didn't quite get there.

So why do you think you 3 fully formed didn't adsorb the yolk? I had this happen to 4 or 5 chicks at New Years and couldn't find a reason online.

Day 22 for my lonely egg, but when I was refilling the water troughs I accidentally shoved the egg a little bit, and when I was done I moved it back into place and I noticed that the egg was VERY heavy on the air cell end, which was the small end, not sure if that will affect its hatching any, but when a set the egg back into its spot the big end was up in the air a fair amount, has anything like this happened to you guys?? Does it mean that it will hatch soon? :/

Did you candle again? You can usually see the heart beat and beak really easy at this point.

Well the only chirping going on near my incubator is the iPod with a app of a chick chirping. I set it up hoping that these unhatched chicks will hear it and get a little motivated. I still have one rocker and she is responding to the app. I am not sure about the others

I thought that you were not suppose to candle when the eggs were in lockdown? :/

Well.... if you where adding water and the incubator was open, I think it would be okay to peek. I did peek at my final 4 eggs.

With a hatch date of 3-28 I was pretty discouraged when by the end of the day only one Lavender Ameracauna hatched out of 22 eggs (I have 10 more in bator but not due until 3-30). Today, however, all 7 Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons hatched and are fat and sassy and 3 more Lavender Ameracauna/Lavender Orpingtons hatched. One of them has a water sac hanging on it so it's isolated from the others. Anyone know what to do about that? Will it eventually be absorbed or do I have to worry about it? Have another Ameracauna that tried to hatch but not happening. Still alive and I'm just waiting...don't think it'll make it though because just too wet. I have 8 BCM eggs. One hatched but still wet and has shell stuck to its back. Another is trying to hatch and very very wet. The other 6 haven't even peeped so I think they drowned. If nothing happens by tomorrow I guess I'll do the baggy autopsy on them. The bator has been opened so often that I don't hold much hope for the Delawares with tomorrow as their hatch day, although, when I did open the bator it was only seconds at a time. My first hatch and all eggs were mailed. I'm very pleased with the LCO's. My husband just reported the BCM with the shell on his back finally got it off so he's putting him in the brooder with the other kids.
