I'm on your side with this bet!I'll bet a dozen eggs from whoever is laying next spring that she only makes it a few weeks before she sets some more...![]()
Oh my, you are all very bad influence on me! Besides, my eggs don't arrive until the week of the 22ndAwwww... come on over. What's a few more chicks![]()
Just wanted to add some pics. These look so much like Leavingegypt's chicks, as we are working with the same general type cross...only opposite. We are using BO roo over red sex link hens. The hens as chicks were quite a bit darker than these, and they had darker striping and oval shapes on their backs. The BO roo chicks were a good bit lighter than these offspring, so will be interesting to see what they look like as they mature. At any rate, they should be good dual-purpose, friendly adults.
Still have 2 hatchlings in the 'bator, with 2 more trying to progress from a good pip, one more well-pipped but stalled (I am afraid these are shrink-wrapped)...if all goes well with those, that would be 11 of 14 at the start of lockdown. Today would be day 23.
I will NEVER try this again without a thermostat (what were we thinking?!?), but we are well and truly hooked!!! We drove down a country road this past summer, and had to stop for a VERY fancy and full-of-himself roo to cross. I mean, so fancy, we thought about him all day...and many times since. I am considering driving out there to knock on the door to see if they have any hatching eggs they would like to sell me![]()

Roxanne can always change the date like I did on this thread....Oh my, you are all very bad influence on me! Besides, my eggs don't arrive until the week of the 22nd![]()
Congrats!!!! I love the mutt chicks they look like paint colored horses with all those splotches. My Broody is doing quite well with her eggs.
So far five chicks out of the nine eggs. Plus one egg has a zip.
Inside we are not doing so well. I feel like we stalled. I have been thinking about grabbing the chicks and putting them in a brooder, taking all the eggs and putting them under my hen, she will stay with it as she is the best. Really I won't do that to her, taking the chicks would break her little heart. The two yellow & black ones are her mutt chicks. The yellow should be my Delaware. The other two I am not sure of but I think one is a Maran.
Thank goodness we all don't live closer together. I would hate to see what a "night out on the town" would be like. You all are keeping me rolling today, you have to be the funnest group to hatch along with.![]()
