Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Update: I gave up on 3 eggs - 2 marans, probably unfertilized and 1 orpington, blood ring. There are still a few questionable ones, but I kept them in just in case.

Thanks :D

Culled the 2 banty eggs and the 7 turkey eggs tonight. @ 6 days, zero growth in them. The others however are veining out and even with the light on my cell i could pick out the dark embryos in the yoke. Turkey eggs going in the fridge until i can AI my hen.

Turkeys have to be AI'd?? Never knew that. Sorry to hear about the eggs.

Do you know if Marans are that difficult to hatch? I set 12 local Marans egg on my last hatch and only 3 hatched (1 died.) Second candling at Day 14 I threw out 7 of the eggs. Most of those never started and the ones(2) that did were very early quitters.

Day 14 here, candeled this morning 34 good eggs, 1 iffy egg and 1 quiter removed, four days until lockdown, will candle again and see where things are at then. Those realy dark welsummer eggs sure are hard to see into. Good luck everyone !

In your opinion what is the best turkey to raise for Thanksgiving dinner? I just may give it a shot next year but I would have to find someone around here to do the dirty deed at the end because I am too soft hearted.

WOW!! what a nice hatch you have going. Looks like you have a very fertile bunch. I had 1 Welsummer egg in my last hatch and I was so excited to see it growing but it quit right before day 14. They are bad to candle but a lot easier than Marans eggs.
