Thanks. I was not going to hatch anymore this year but the run I am building for my 4 silkie chicks now is wayyyy to big for them so I needed more chickens...

I ended up getting some Catdance Silkie eggs. I just love her birds and know what ever hatches will make a nice addition to what I already have.

Yeah!!!! I got my silkie eggs today too. I am going to change the ending date on this thread to the 3rd so our hatches can be part of it.

lol...okay i am haveing them sitting at the counter in my egg cardboard carton pointy end faceing down...have my phone alarm set for 12 hours. then i'm going to put them in the incubator... it is set at 100 degrees at the higher level and about 99 on the floor of the incubator.(hubbys said i did over kill with the thermometer. i have one digital that also reads the humidity set at an angle and 2 regual one. One on the floor of the incubator and another right next to the digital one) with 27% humidty..... i did notice the eggs are dirty but i din't scrubed them or anything. So...am i doing good so far???

OK - question though ..... Sweet Pea (One of my EE's) ALWAYS lays rounded eggs (it's really difficult to tell which is the round end) and I have hatched boys and girls out of her eggs - In fact, here is Victor, One of Sweet Pea's chicks from a hatch earlier this year (check at that Comb

Ruth (my other EE) ALWAYS lays pointy eggs. I haven't hatched any of hers yet, they're cooking at the moment, so we'll see. I find that some hens lay pointy eggs and others lay more rounder ones. Doesn't it depend on the Hen, not the shape of the egg??? Just a question to add to the mix

Up the humidity to the high 30's. You will want to put one of those thermometers right on top of the eggs to get a good idea of what their temp is. Did you calibrate your thermometers or at least one of them before you read the reading in your bator? Otherwise sounds like you are good to go.

Yes it is the hen that determines the sex. My honest opinion is that the shape of the egg doesn't matter but we will see when the little fuzzy butts start hatching.

Hi!

Breed: OEGB (unknown what kind)
Location: Kansas
Set date: Sept. 24

I set 3 OEGB eggs under my broody girls on Sept. 24th. Last time I candled, they were all alive and growing, yay!
My broody girls are silkies and they are so determined! My buff/blue silkie Pumpkin is so cute. This is her third try on hatching and if she doesn't get chicks this time, my heart will be broken. My other silkie named Winter got a chick in the last hatch, but it died.

I am sooooo hoping for chicks.

Here's Pumpkin. She's all ready for Halloween, haha!
