Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Thanks :'') I am 100% exhausted and so far that egg has done nothing since the pip (I'm about 100% certain that he/she is fast asleep and taking a long nap from all that hard work!) I just want to go to sleep, quite frankly...but I sleep for about 10 hours and if it hatches a short while after I fall asleep - I don't want it stuck in there for 10 hours (will probably be dry in 4) =/ SO here I sit, half awake. Time to make coffee I guess.

Most chicks pip and then take a longggg rest. They are finishing up absorbing the yolk and the blood vessels are drying up. I would go lay down and maybe set your alarm clock to wake up in a few hours. Otherwise you are going to get NO sleep in the next couple of days. I remember during my very first hatch I had like 4 hours of sleep within 48 hours I finally went to bed because I was totally incoherent. My daughter came in around 2 am to tell me that 2 more chicks were zipping and I answered her and don't remember doing so. When I finally did wake up there were two more chicks that had hatched.

I'll agree with Brookhavens on this one. Mine seem to take about 24 hrs usually pip to zip. I had one this hatch that I was worried about that took about 28 hrs. She was fine, just having a nice rest.

I would seriously grab some rest yourself.

Yeah get some sleep you cant do much to help early anyway...only later if one gets stuck so all you can do early on is keep looking and driving youtself crazy.Good luck!

quick question I know the humidity goes up when they start hatching so should I try to control it what magic number am I looking for or should I just let it be? Oh and will the temperature go up to? I should leave new hatches in and not open lid till everyones done or take out nes ones after they are dry? sorry 3 questions LOL. I am going to need to be locked up after this lockdown

OK here's a couple of blurry photies!!! There are 5 EE mix (the darker ones) and 5 super blues (the white ones). It's funny coz the one standing up on somebody else's head (in the 2nd shot) was one of the last born - LOL

Ha ha ha - the joys of lockdown (no matter how many times you've done it - LOL)

  1. I, personally, worry more about the humidity than temp during lockdown (unless you've been hassling with temp throughout). If your temps have been stable then you should be fine (even with the fluctuations) during hatch/lockdown. I don't like to go over 70% humidity (but I'm in Florida and I'm thinking the rules may be a little different for us 'Southerners'). I would def be removing wet cloths e.t.c if your humidity levels are going into the 80's
  2. Yes temps will go up and down. Depending on whether you'r still air or forced air, those 'highest' temp levels will be different
  3. Ummmmm 'yes' in a perfect world. I have had to help so many chicks in the past I don't think I've ever had a 'keep the lid on till all's hatched' scenario ...... ummmmmm, maybe that's why I'm down to 50% hatches

My '2c' worth!!! Wanna see pics when you're all done :)
