Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

If you have to intervene then it is very important to make sure you do not tear through blood vessels in the membrane as the chick will bleed out...when they are ready to hatch the chick stops all blood passing through the veins around the membrane so they can cut a zip throu it...
A lot of people will say never interven but I do and have not regretted it yet....all the little ones that I have helped have made it and grown up just like everyone else...but it is a gamble...

What she said...LOL.

Wima did it! So far we have 2 chickies, not sure if more are to come. She was sitting on 7 eggs. One fell out of the nest box, but found it within minutes and put it back with Wilma. I've secured a board for now to prevent any chickies taking a header, but wilam can still get out. She hasn't moved. Hopefully we can move the family to their nursery tonight. On the other hand, my other hens are going crazy not being able to see what's going on in the coop. Had to shut it down because the cats were getting curious.

So far we have 3 out of 7 hatched. 1 BO for sure 1 BO/PR for sure, the third is lighter but not as light as a BO I think. I know that 1 of the BO eggs has not hatched. I original set 3 BO and 4BO/PR eggs. We'll see. They seem very healthy <3

What a pretty color they are. CONGRATS!!! It looks like the lighter one is giving you the evil eye....lol

Six out of 14 so far have hatched...bit the bullet and pulled these six out of the bator...they looked too hot, and had been dry many hours. They seem MUCH more comfortable in the pen! Still have pips in the 'bator trying to zip, so still hangin' in there!

I do the same thing. If they start panting in the incubator, as long as they are dry, out they come.

OMG I am so glad I listened and went into lockdown last night. I hope it was soon enough. I am working in my office (where the bator is) and I am hearing chirping! Also I think there is a little tiny pip

I just said I've never heard a chirp in an egg or saw one roll around and I've seen both today.

So happy for you!!!

I had an egg rolling around and chirping today and now all is quite. When do you know if they are in trouble? I am so worried that I locked-down late and they didn't have enough humidity. One pipped earlier today but that is all there is. It has been very quite for awhile now.

I think there may be two pips but the brown egg is so small and it has been that way all day.
The white egg was moving chirping and pipped but it's been so quite that I am getting nervous. I need to just sit on my hands but if I should be doing something & this little one dies I will feel really bad. If I open the bator and ruin all the eggs I will also feel bad---I can't win.
Any thoughts?????
