Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

well today is wednesday and it's also day 20 for my duccle eggs.... oh i do want them to hatch ....i like the look of those chickens.

for some reason i've had a terrible track record with "fall" hatching....4 chicks outta 25 eggs. granted they were shipped eggs but still?????
last spring using the same incubator i  hatched silver sebrights, valley quail, golden pheasants, ringneck pheasants, gambel quail, and mexican speckled bobwhites. it seemed every egg hatched... then along came late summer and i hatched 1 silver sussex outta 6 eggs. then 4 speckled sussex outta 19 eggs.

now my 1st hatch of duccle eggs of 4 didnt produce any and my 2nd hatch of duccle eggs are in lockdown(4 eggs).

my temps are around 99.3 - 99.5 with humidity ranging from 50 to 40%. i bump the humidity up to 60 to 65% at lockdown (2 different incubators w/ fans in each)

:fl    PLEASE let my eggs (duccle and call duck) hatch......:th

Been on these hatch threads some months now and 50 % hatch on shipped for everyone is fantastic.About 1/3 is normal
If all yours were shipped then you did well so far.It is a big gamble when shipped They could be old eggs, unfertile plus scrambled so each breed, line and breeder is different i think.I had one hatch of shipped i got 10 chicks4 out of 14 eggs but i think they were just a strong scramble resistant line and haapen to be most all fertile Only 2 were clear.Next hatch diff eggs breeder hatched 0 for 18 eggs!
Good Luck to you andmy fingers crossed for my new bunch in also.

6 hatched 4 that have pipped and 4 just sittin there nothing yet they better hurrry up they are going to get concusions from being rolled around rowdy little buggers

OK I have two pips, one hasn't done anything since I discovered it at 4 o'clock this morning - but it is in the top 1/3 of the egg. The second one I noticed about 10 this morning. It is in the BOTTOM third of the egg.

Is there anything I should be doing? They are in a cardboard carton (with the bottoms cut off) so they are not rolling around - they are shipped eggs. I am wondering if this "upside down" chick or will drown if not already? And yes the large end is up on the egg. I have had better luck with the babies hatching when i have them this way. I have not ever had one pip from the wrong end. Should I quickly take it out of the carton and lay it on the wire so it can roll around?

Right now the temperature and humidity is pretty perfect and I have sat on my hands truly honoring lock down so far!!! I guess you can't ever have a "perfect" hatch right?

Got one Leghorn that hatched at 12:30. He can't walk yet, is that normal, 3 hours and still cant walk?

Hatching takes a toll on them and all they want to do is rest for a while. Their first attempts at walking are very wobbly with lots of spills. Just make sure that the legs are positioned correctly under the chick. If you see legs that are bent strangely or sticking out to the side then there is cause for concern.

Was this egg one with a wonky air cell? It could have pipped into the air cell if it was that low. Or the chick never turned around. I would go ahead and place it on it's side and watch the egg closely for continued movement. If nothing happens within a few hours then I would get some tweezers and gently start peeling the shell away. If you see blood STOP immediately and put it back in the bator. If there are no blood vessels left I would start zipping the egg for him. I had one that pipped the wrong end a couple of hatches ago and was told a little too late that I should have intervened. Sadly I lost that chick.

ok I have this one chick that is like this in its shell but has been this way since 10 this morning still breathing and wiggles but the feathers are drying out afraid hes stuck what should I do?
