Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

Congrats on the new baby chicks everyone! I'm trying to catch up. I went into lock down, hope to have at least 2 chicks tomorrow. Most of the eggs I got from my pet chicken were not fertile. I locked down 6 eggs out of 18, but think only 2 may make it. All shipped eggs. I am normally 75-90% hatch rate with local eggs...think I may give up on the shipped eggs. They are so disappointing. AND to top it off, I am having issues with the new incubator getting past 60 humidity. Get the feeling this is going to be disastrous hatch.
I know what you mean! we got a dozen shipped eggs and only two made it. A third was squished before it hatched and the fourth hatched, but was so weak it ended up dying anyway. I think I'll just keep an eye on the local chicken meets and get eggs from there.
I hope they hatch out strong and healthy with no problems!

And congrats on the two new silkies fur n feathers! They're both just adorable, they look like they're getting along great already :)

Good luck!!

Thanks RoxanneinLa! They actually had a special on the silkie chicks for $3.75!

I think most ppl here try and find someone on craigs or someplace that has new babies to sell so the lone chick has a friend fot warmth
and companion..Mine always count on their sibs so much...... unless you have more to hatch this week.
Thanks RoxanneMC! You know this is confusing a tad bit! Ha! Ha!

I know I say thanks Roxanne and that just doesn't suffice does it???

I am feeling so much better now. This new baby knows how to eat and drink well so maybe that will encourage my little one to start. She is three days old and needs to start quickly!!!

Oh and by the way, I have to join up on the new thread too. One of the Serama hens has decided to become broody here in the last third of October. BAH!!!!

I have blue Opringtons that look like that too - should I include so Brookshaven has more to babysit?

Oh my WORD!!! I'm tearing up just thinking about it (Do you get the feeling I'm a little 'over the top chicken happy' - LOL) Yesssss please - I didn't even know they came in blues. Oh my word yes!!!

Thanks Roxanne!

I have been watching Craigslist for the last three days and the only chicks are the age of my last hatch at about 4 weeks old.

I am trying to teach her to eat and drink and it hasn't been going too well. I try "pecking" with my fingernail. No luck with chick starter, oatmeal, or egg yolk (boiled). Her older sibling go crazy for egg yolk. I get a drop of water and wet her beak. Man I don't want to lose this chick!!! :barnie

Sorty about no luck on craigs.Did you try Ebay Classified in your town?Have you tried to give her a little water with the littlest bit of smashed crumbles in it with an eye dropper??I wouldnt worry a lot if shes a day old..she is still living off the yolk.I would try a little water in a eyedropper and also dip her beak tip in the water container..I eye drop fed a few of mine and some didnt even want it but every hour i would try a couple 2-3drops very slowly and at the side of there beak just a drop til you see her swollow. Each one of mine even the picky one took off after a while.A drop of polivisol No iron...in the water doesnt hurt either and many ppl say to add electrolites for a weak chick.GOOD LUCK
Oh also ppl say to put a feather duster in with her that babies like to hide in it.I didnt try this but she will be happier with a mirror in with her.
