Setting Eggs Sept. 24th-Oct. 4th-Last Hatch of the Year. Anyone care to join me?

well,

i just saw that i've got 2 outta 4 call duck eggs hatching. all i've read about them, you have to assist them because of their short bill, large head and short neck. so quickly got the 4 out, candled them and found 2 had internally pipped and had punched a hole in the shell....:)

i've just put 3 call duck eggs (different set) in lockdown a few minutes ago; they'll hatch the 26th . then i have 2 mille fleur d'uccle bantam chicken eggs that will hatch 29-30th.

Lakebird I am in south east Mo. about 1 hour15 minutes south of downtown St Louis. 2 of my kids live in Columbia but its 3 1/2 hours from me. HUUMMM... I am not sure where Centralia is.Is it near Columbia? Paris is way up in north MO. I live near the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. (which are really just hills) Sorry for not PMing this to you as its of the chicken subject....I cant use my pm reply part on here now for some reason .Doesnt work the last week.To do it i have to go to my dial up AOL. Cant use Exployer. CRazy.
Centralia is just north of Columbia, but before you head to Paris.

Brookhavens...anything yet?
Well just got home and I can hear chicks under my broody in the garage...but I don't dare move her as I killed a chick on Sunday by dropping the stupid egg....but they are chirping away....yay
Oh and when I got out of my car my neighbor came over and politely asked me how long I was going to keep 'that' rooster for....dang!
I do live in the city though and everyone has been very understanding and patient...I told them I would move him on...I didnt tell him that I actually had four Roos...
No nothing yet from the first two. I had 2 more pip this afternoon. The first 2 that pipped are just cracks not an actual star shape. The 2 from today are big star shaped pips.

It stinks that you can't keep at least one of them. Good luck finding homes for 4.

I did an eggtopsy today. Looks like out of the 6 that went into lockdown, 2 didn't even develop (couldn't see because of the dark eggs), 3 started, but quit along the way (just big black blobs) and one was developed. I wonder if I took out too early (was 23 days) or if the new incubator just didn't get enough humidity and it died inside the eggs. Local eggs...local eggs...no more shipped eggs! Let's see how long that lasts lol
Marans are really tough to hatch. Out of my last 12 I had 6 that were not fertile, 1 quitter and out of the 5 that went into lockdown 3 hatched and 1 died.I usually wait until day 25 or 26 to do eggtopsies. I have never had one hatch that late but I have seen people say that they have.

Day 20. tossed one of the 3 this morning. Candled it and it was sloshing. Other two i cant see movement but the air cells were still intact, and they didnt appear to be sloshing around either. I cracked the sloshing egg, development had for sure stopped and it was decomposing into a slurry. gross i know.
I had a slurry in my last hatch. It made it to lockdown and 3 days later I candled it and it was disgusting inside.

. Picanins and her family dropped off her incubator full of eggs about 2 hours ago. Beautiful family and great people. I feel really bad though because 2 of her sons touched a caterpillar that was on a bush in my yard and both boy's hands swelled up. Nikki (picanins} took a picture of the caterpillar so maybe she will post it later. I have never seen a caterpillar like this before.

well if they not long pipped then they are resting and I always say they take a good 24 hrs to wake back up and start to zip...so be patient and you'll have babies in the morning...yay!

oh I'm not planning on getting rid of the other three...lol...just the black silkie roo as he has always been the crower, the loudest, and most persistent...I put him in the garage with my broodies this afternoon and there has not been a crow ever since from anyone...so here's hoping...

They had a power inverter in the truck so it was plugged in for the ride. Boys will be boys.
