Hahaha! That sounds like something my kid would do. One more reason I have a big wooden cabinet incubator! Speaking of which ... Yesterday I set a metric crapload of eggs! Lemme see ... 2 dozen Buff Orpington, 2 dozen Easter Egger, 2.5 dozen mystery chicken (from a backyard flock), 2.5 dozen olive eggers (Ameraucana hens with a BCM rooster), 3 BCM, and the Real Reason I'm Setting Eggs, 2 dozen specialty eggs from DipsyDoodleDoo! The specialty eggs come from some fascinating breeding projects she has going, and will include Naked Neck frizzled, a mix of cochin/silkie frizzles, green eggs laying silkies, green egg laying Naked Necks, and purebed Ameraucanas. One is a gorgeous sky blue, stunning little egg. I had a talk with it last night, informing it that it was to hatch a splash hen for me. We will see if it listens!

Out of our 4 backyard hens this summer, we've lost 3 to the heat and foxes. :-( The kids were pretty upset, so now they will get to pick some very special chicks to keep, and the rest will be sold to continue funding the chicken endeavor. I've hatched several times before in the cabinet incubator, so I have high hopes for this one.

I look forward to hatching with you guys! This is gonna be great!

Alright hatching buddies, I need some pep talking...

I woke up this morning and checked on my eggies. I turned on my Spot-Check and the temp read 103.0!

I flipped out like no other...I really suspect that my last hatch went horribly wrong due to a rogue temp spike. I then noticed that my probe had slipped and was just super close to one of the coils! haha I moved it and re-checked: 99.5. Shooooo! I did turn the temp down just a hair...literally a pinch of the knob, since today is going to be in the high 90s. Just in case my room heats up extra today, I wanted to be covered (I had to turn it up the same pinch last night after a storm dropped our temps super quickly).

I have been all over the boards and have gotten plenty of tips for my LG and feel as though I'm right on target with my temps...slightly lower than users of the Brinseas and Hovas because the things are just temperamental like that. I've read alot about the use of wigglers, but can't find one for the life of me and figure that by the time I order one and get it in, it'll be super late for use. I feel like I am totally overthinking this, but I want these babies to hatch so very badly. After having a 3 out of 16 hatch last go, my confidence is really hurting. Anyone else freaking out this badly????

oh yes, i am freakin crazy here, i have to go out today for a couple of hours and i am worrying, it is supposed to be warm here and i am so afraid my temps will spike uhggggggg
I am now officially known around here as the Crazy Chicken Lady hehe

Yea the waiting is killing me already, I got the 3 1/2 eggs in the incubator, and one hen in the coop has 2 eggs due a week before the bator eggs. I also have 3 turkey eggs under a different hen due when the bator is. Hope all goes well. At least I got an incubator that I can't adgust the temp on, or I would be constiantlly fidling with it. Will see how this incubator work, because no one on here has used one before.

I also got my first hatching eggs from Wynette, and I echo the above sentiments! Six of the seven eggs hatched, only one hatchling drowned in the water reservoir, but I have 5 healthy little 10 day old olive eggers now. (One of 'em came OUT of the egg with a miniscule comb - five little bitty points on it - bet that's a rooster!)

I set 7 more eggs just this morning, which I purchased from another BYC member. These are bantam cochin eggs. Their itty bitty size kinda scares me...

I ALSO bought a fancy-schmantzy egg candler, and thought I might actually candle these eggs. (I didn't candle the first batch of eggs - didn't want to have to deal wtih any disappointment early on.)

gryeyes, I am so glad that you got so many babies from your hatch! Please rub some of those results off onto me! With 14 in the hopper, I'd love to come out with even just 6 or 7...a 50% hatch would make my year! haha

As for candling, Day 10 cannot get here fast enough!!! I absolutely have to know what's going on in there!!!
