Setting eggs this weekend! Aug 14th! any hatching buddies?

I don't know.

I keep wondering if I'll even get a hatch out of any of this with all the stories about bad hatches.

My incubator temps seem to fluctuate a few degrees either direction

and despite seeing some stuff (finally saw veins), I'm not holding out a lot of hope. Still, it'd be cool if I got some chicks out of it.

I so want the blue orpingtons and FBCMs.

I'll probably check a couple of the college town organic type stores for actual fertile eggs as well as the "Free range" type organic stuff at the big chain stores. I've looked around at Kroger, Wal-Mart, etc. and have yet to see any eggs specifically marked as fertile.

Candled my eggs tonight. First timer here with a homemade incubator. Ive studied egg candling pictures but really cant tell alot about mine. 4 of 9 i can see the spec that might be the eye, I hope they are alive.

Time will tell I guess.

Really don't think it's that big of a deal, you flipped it back over and that's what matters. Remember, nobody tells the hen which end needs to go up. Might not have been the best thing for it, but I wouldn't get excited over it.
I candled tonight before work and I'm happy with the results so far on day 8. I've got 13 out of 14 silkie eggs that are developing nicely, lots of movement inside. Had some issues seeing through the BLRW eggs. Almost all the polish are doing good and showing movement. 100% developement so far in the mille fleur D'Uccles, which I'm excited about because this is my 6 y/o daughters line and I know she will be happy. Out of 52 eggs in the bator I only pulled 2 out tonight to toss out.

Oh he is PRECIOUS!!! Maybe I'll need to hatch out one of those someday...

I am still waiting until tomorrow night to candle. My temps have been much lower for this hatch, so I'm thinking my development might be a tad slower. I'd rather wait to Day 10, to be sure I'm seeing duds. I can barely wait to see the results. Keep your fingers crossed!!!

In the meantime, I got my already-hatched babies some Greek yogurt last night. I haven't gone out there to give them any...maybe this evening. Thus far, they've only gotten fruit and veggies for treats. I'm eager to see if they get into it! They're about 11 weeks old now, but I was under the mistaken impression that they couldn't have the calcium rich stuff until they were more grown...18 weeks or so. oops! I've been holding out on them!!!
