Setting eggs this weekend! Aug 14th! any hatching buddies?

I will join I am a newby to bators, but me and my partne have purchased a fantastic one for a bargain price, we are using the 'king suro' fab contraption

We set 2 silkie eggs in the bator on 16th August.. candled at day 6 and a big

both are doing great, we are a little nervous really hopeto have both hatch for our first time

and also these should be gold laced silkies, which people seem to not be sure about, but I have seen them with my own eyes and they exist

So cant wait for hatch day...

Today is day 9, and I candled all my eggs. I am happy most of my eggs are doing great out of the 3 1/2 dozen I threw out 2 with blood rings, one milli fluer and one delaware. About 6 looked to be clear, marked those to check again later, the others all had good veining and looked good. I am really excited.

I can't wait until they hatch.

It's C-Day! haha I get to candle my eggies this evening!!!

Stallionhawk, I'm praying I have such good luck...only two that were certainly bad out of 3 1/2 dozen!? How fantastic! Even if the 6 questionable ones go, you're still having a great run! Since I've got 14 in currently, I'm hoping for a 50% hatch...7 or so would be fabulous.

Has anyone heard of temperature impacting the sex of the hatch? I thought it was just one of those folk sayings, but I've read it in a few different places now, so I'm not so sure. A family friend of ours also got her daughter some eggs way back when as a birthday gift. They had no clue what they were doing with the incubator and basically cooked them, but still had some hatch. All boys. It makes me wonder if there isn't some truth to the whole thing...

So now that I candled all my eggs, I still have no idea how Im doing??
Dark spots in the eggs? like half the egg dark good or bad?
then the ones that are basically clear no good?
blood rings...whats that?
Either Im not to good at being a bator mom or not to good at candling...I hope I stink at candling!

Candling is such an art...I think it takes YEARS to get good at it, based upon the BYC topics on the subject. If you are seeing nothing but clear, they probably aren't good. The bloodrings appear as a single dark ring, usually around the egg or obviously on the surface. If you aren't certain, leave them and watch them. Mark the ones you think are questionable and just keep special focus on those. If they don't stink or weep, they should be alright to stay put. In my first hatch, I left them all in...nothing bad happened, nothing ever smelled, none cracked, nothing exploded. I was too scared to pitch them...what if I just wasn't seeing something correctly!!?!

i candled mine sunday night... that would have been 9 complete days.... i pulled up the sticky thread on the top of this forum section to compare what i was seeing as to what they should look like... and most of mine compared more to day 10 to day 13 than they did to day 9 ... the good news was i only had about 7 i think that werent developing out of 35...

would you venture to say that they started developing before being put into the incubator if they looked so far advanced?

WOW! Well, I was GONNA start settin eggs, but I figured it was toooo late in the season,

so I didn't!!!!

Now, I might rethink that!!!

Well, the results from the Day 10 candling are in...at least 11 out of 14 are developing!!!

One of the other 3 is much more porous, but looked to be developing. As it is no super easy to read, I didn't include it in my count. One definitely looked like a bloodring. Another just looked much more light than the others...not clear exactly, but just not so much going on. I'm thinking the 11 are for certain, one maybe, and two no-gos. I can't wait until Day 18 to confirm who goes into lockdown!!!
