Setting eggs today 5-3-12...anyone with me?

Really sorry about the little guy that could not get out, and about the one dropped. :( Things just happen. I'm up early to check for pips. Day 20 is on go. I have 3 of the most tiny one-flake pips you've ever seen, but I swear I hear PEEPS! No one told me you could hear them! My cat hears them, too. She is sitting with ears peeled toward the bator. Good luck today everyone.

Be careful with your cat. I have heard several stories of cats being curious about the incubators and knocking them off of tables and shelves trying to get at the peeping or even at the first ones that hatch.

I only have one tiny little pip, and it is not all the way through, just a few little cracks and the shell protruding a bit. It is egg number 17 in my incubator, it is a white egg. I am super excited to see what it looks like. My neighbor is not really sure which of her hens lays what eggs. There are some lightish brown eggs, a few darker brown and 2 white ones in there. So today I need to be making birds and pigs out of fondant for an Angry Birds cake order I have to deliver on Saturday...I have feeling I will be running from the kitchen to the bedroom every 15 minutes watching for progress!

Good luck everyone! We are on the home stretch now...let's all have good healthy hatches.

I have 2 new babies in the bator, but these are BCM and they are yellow? One has some black down its back...the one my Broody has is all black...Im a tad confused but that can be normal, congrats to everyone, I have more to go, fingers crossed for everyone!!

No movement yet at GreenGirlGrammys. You must have a Super Chick in there! This is only day 19.5 for us since I placed them late on May 3rd.
My temp is averaging right at 100, and humidity holding steady at 69%. Got my camera on ready. Some of these eggs were held on the counter for up to 9 days.
Like many of you, this is my first experience. So it has been great learning from each other. So glad Wyo started this thread. Sounds like some of you guys are
really having some issues, so I'm bracing myself for anything!!

Sorry about the Naked Neck leg problems. I've never seen any for real, but from the pictures...sheesh!!!...are they part buzzard?! :)
I don't have any action yet either but I like you set mine late on the day so I am not not even through the 19 day until 6 pm to night.
When the NN babies are teen agers they look like Rator dinos to me.

But they are one of my favorites. I will have to find them some place else though. I am not going through this again.

OH, I am sorry about the two that didn't make it. It is so hard to wait and wait and then have that happen. Hope the rest of you two guys hatch is good.

I am glad I started the thread too...what a great way to learn from everyone else.

As for NN, we have one hen, Nancy. She is the sweetest thing. She lays a brown egg at least 5-6 times a week. We got her as a pullet and she was the only one. So when I ordered from the hatchery this year I ordered 5. We have had good luck with them. One we had to put down because she was running with a grape in her mouth, tripped over the feeder and smacked the side of her neck/head onto the brick I was using to raise the water up in their brooder. The injury gave her seizures and wry neck. I tried to nurse her for about a week and it was getting to where she was having seizures about every 15 minutes. So we had to put her down. She was a sweet little thing and while I was trying to nurse her I had her in our house. She would snuggle up with me in a towel while I watched tv....it was quite an experience. So now Nancy wont be the lone NN, as the teens are out with the hens now. I love them and am considering getting some showgirls. :)

So I'm just sick. I was candling my eggs to go into lockdown and I dropped one. I have never done that before and I wish so badly that I hadn't done it now. I'm just sick about it. I only have five in lockdown now. Poor little thing I just feel terrible. I was trying to put them into lockdown before I left for my daughters graduation and I guess I was trying to hurry to much. Lesson learned.

Awww, I'm so sorry. That was my biggest fear each time I handled them. :(

Alabama is rockin and rollin. I just saw three rock a couple times each! They are getting into position for their big debut!! Most of mine are wedged up around the sides of the incubator to leave more room in the middle for the romper-stompers. I am an X Romper Room teacher on tv in the 70's in the GA market. Magic Mirror tell me today, have all my friends had fun at play?

Oh my goodness, I vaguely remember wishing she would say MY name! LOL

Well, today is day 21 for me and all is quiet in the homemade incubator. :( When I candled eggs, I had so many with broken air cells. The mailman had dropped my clearly marked FRAGILE box on my front porch when he delivered it. Out of my 24 silkie eggs, 8 had bubbles to indicate a broken air cell, 5 were not fertile, 5 had questionable air cells that were misshapen but developing chicks, 2 had the red ring, and 4 were good looking chicks with decent air cells.

I kept the questionable air cells vertical in egg cartons - I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but with no pipping and almost 24 hours since my first chick, I'm starting to get very discouraged.
