Ducklings are so cute. I love those pictures.
I'm hoping for all girls but I know that I probably won't be that lucky. Oh well, either rehome or freezer camp the boys but my daughter now says she is a vegetarian for chickens...sigh.

My hatch is officially done. I checked the bator today and the remaining eggs started to smell like stink bombs. I opened them up and one was totally undeveloped, a second looked to have made it to maybe day 14 and the other two were shrink wrapped in their eggs. I cleaned them out and now I am getting it ready for the next batch. I am thinking that I am going to try adding some peroxide to my water next time to cut down on bacteria. There was a lot of brown discharge growing in the water cells. for the incubator when I cleaned it out. It could have been from the eggs hatching but if it's just from my water it would be good to put something in to keep it from growing. Does anyone else do this?

Here are pictures of my brood.

Mine are due to hatch sometime between the 2nd and 4th...keeping you guys posted! So far,6 are still kicking...and I even saw a distinct bill in one egg while candling. That was the SMALLEST bill I have ever seen!

One of the babies didn't make it. I'm sort of glad it happened while I was taking the little one over to grandma's for the evening.
We had it in her room trying to keep it warm. The mama was ignoring it, I suppose, and taking the others around the minicoop for scratching and eating so we tried to help it out. Poor little thing just had a hard time, couldn't stay walking very well or standing. We held it in our hand for a few hours. These things happen, though. It stinks, though.

So sorry you are right though these things often do happen unfortunately it doesn't make it any easier when you are dealing with living things, especially cute, loveable living things
