Hey there!
I'm setting 14 silky eggs tonight that shipped in this morning...they are resting right now.
I'd love to have some hatching buddies

Hi Iceblink

Yes, shipped eggs are always a gamble

I had only 2 out of 15 hatch last batch.
The air cells look like they are in much better shape on this new batch.
I'm cautiously hopeful.

Thankyou for the invite. just set the eggs today at 700pm. This will be my first hatch(in the homemade bator modeled after Miss Prissy, ?sp). If any chick makes it, it will be the first chicken after 30 years. I am a little more nervous about the eggs than just finding out from my wife today after her ob/gyn visit that we have 2 hearts beating in her own oven, LOL. Just set 3 eggs of each australorp, BO, barred rock, RIR, americauna, leghorn. Game on.

my silkie started sitting on 3 eggs today so we shall see if she stays there ( she left the last 2 groups of eggs after a few hours...she seems to forget she is supposed to sit on them lol)

Couldnt sleep last night after setting the eggs. My wife said since I couldnt sleep might as well go sit on the eggs. My mind keep running on and on about whether the temperature going to be steady enough. I delivered 13 babies in my school days, and cant remember I was any bit nervous. But now with the chicken thing, hummm, will call in some Xanax. May be even Valium since its duration of action is much longer, LOL. OMG just realize it's still day #1. My 3 yo daughter is much much calmer than I am, will consult her for psych evaluation.

I'm doing the same thing! I set the eggs last night after letting them reach room temperature (8+hours). I have a temp probe that I suspend right over the eggs and it was reading between 99.4-100 all day yesterday. I add the eggs last night and now it's reading 98.5

I have a Hovabator 1588 and had no problems with it last year for 4 hatches. It did this temperature drop on my first batch of 2010 and I adjusted the temp for the first time since owning the thing and my chicks hatched on day 21.
So, I'm thinking I might just leave it be. I have been really happy with the accuracy of my thermometer/hygrometer but now I'm not too sure.

Incubating eggs makes me second guess myself too much

I'm warming up the bator and will be loading this evening.
2 boxes of hatching eggs arrived over the last 2 days and are
settling, point down, and recovering from their trips. One of the boxes had
a rough ride from TX and 2 eggs broke. The only consolation is they were both
fertile and I got an extra BC Maran egg.

Hopefully a good sign for all.
The other eggs came from AL and they were fine.
I got the eggs from BYC, very cool! Here's the rundown:

6 Black Copper Marans- very dark! easy 7-8 rated, a step darker than my Wheaties
5 Salmon Faverolles- very cool looking birds, I hear they taste great
8 Partridge Silkies
4 Blush Silkies
3 Black/Blue Silkies- I plan on donating the Silkies to a local farm that does an after school programs for kids.
Also, the manager of the local Chinese restaurant has expressed some interest in the Silkies!
I think I might keep a few as broddies, we will see.

This is the maiden voyage of my Brinsea ECO 20.
It performed well on its 48 hour break in, staying rock solid at 100 on
the glass thermometer, 99.5F and 42% RH on the Walmart special, and
all over the place on my Petco specials.
Currently, the bator is at 99.5F and 43%RH.

If all goes well, my next hatch will be my own eggs, but that is another story.

Good luck with your hatch and may you be black out and surge free for the next 21 days!
