setting eggs tomorrow.... 3-21-12 who wants to join?

This is my first hatch! I love doing this, but i have to admit, it would be easier if i already had chickens to begin with, but my coop is empty, it makes the wait even LONGER!


 

welcome to the party...... .....lockdown on moday....hatch date on wed......all anxious....this is my 5th hatch since feb.....and i always go thru all the emotions.....lol....dont get tired of it .....

This is my first time too. Even though I see that they are developed greatly I am afraid the whole time that I have done something wrong. Talk about emotions. I walk by the bator at least 20 times a day and look at the temp and hum. So far I think its good. I am one day into lock down with a humidity of 67-70. Oh I hope I have not done anything wrong to them. Mon is my day of reconing. Yikes!!!!

This is why I am so glad we are going out of town tomorrow for Easter. Between working today and being out of town tomorrow I don't have too much of an opportunity to obsess over the eggs. It's my first time, and we just went into lock down this morning, but already I can tell that this is the worst part for me. I can't touch anything!

Just remember, if nothing happens on Monday, don't give up hope. Sometimes eggs just take a little longer than what the books say to hatch. That said, I wish it were Tuesday already!

I have to admit I'm starting to get excited!!! We're almost done and we'll get to see those fluffy butts soon.


I joined the Easter hatch, but my chicks aren't due til Tuesday. It's been rough to go on that thread and see all the babies coming out and have nothing happen with mine. I KNOW they aren't ready yet, but.....

Joining a little late, but I set my eggs on 3/22 and am about to go crazy with anticipation!
I don't know how anyone lasts 9 months, let alone 21 days.
I also took one from my hen house after my hen gave up sitting on it (not just left for a little way, but totally gave up)
on about day 17. It was cold but looked alive when I candled the next few days.
It is on day 21 tomorrow, so my humidity is already increased.
Hoping this little one makes it, it would soooo ease my wait. . .

An interesting breed of chicken, unfortunately I only got 1 good egg in a batch of 8 on them, hoping it hatches and turns out to be a pullet...

Candled my eggs tonight and I could see two of them with beaks turned towards the air cell, looked like they were already pecking.
Is this just my imagination???

We built our homemade incubator tonight, we bought the IncuKit after I did some reading and relised it had great reviews. Its pretty cool I must say. LOL. I will post pictures of it on sunday, it will be done then and my first batch of staggered hatches will go into lockdown in that, and then the brooder and then the second batch the same.

Ours is in a coleman cooler. I would like to rebuild it into a wooden insulated shipping crate after a while, but this kit we bought, its basically 1-2 mins and you have an incubator. really cool.

Hmm... sounds very interesting, I am all about the easy button. Let me know how it works! My current one is in an old coleman cooler as well, think I just about have the kinks worked out, but I guess we will see how it goes. Let me know how yours works, will look for your pics on here!

I'm betting not. I've never really candled this late in the game. But, you have made me want to. I think I'll go do so now. If I see anything interesting, I'll report back.
