Setting eggs tomorrow, anyone want to join?

Just found this thread and am following along. My daughter and I set our first eggs on the 10th. Hatch day Easter Sunday. We started with 42, had 11 not fertile, 1 blood ring and one detached air cell that didn't develope at all. 29 left. Our last official candleing was at day 10. Guess I should check tonight - day 16. Nothing smells yet so here's hoping.....

If you have a separate hatcher, or just an extra incubator, that would be ideal. Lockdown for them would be tomorrow night.

OH NO!!!! I have stuff to build another bator but I don't have time until the weekend, if even then with it being Easter weekend!! I don't know what to do? Can I do a staggered hatch or something like that? No one told me I had to lock them down sooner? I just assumed they would hatch the next day after the regular lockdown

Look up staggered hatching and see what you should do. I've never done one, but it can be done. I would guess (and don't take my word for it) that you could lock down one day late for the bantams, and maybe only increase the humidity by half of what you would for the standards. And of course stop turning the bantams, but try to keep your incubator lid CLOSED as long as possible. Get in to turn them (if you are hand turning) and close it right back up, no dilly dallying so to speak. Then when you reach day 18 for the standards (regular lockdown) increase humidity to what it's supposed to be at. Maybe place a barrier of some sort between the bantam and standard eggs so that the bantams won't disturb the standards when they hatch. Good luck!

I have all the eggs in cartons...like this...

The D'uccles are #4-8.

Dry incubation, so there is no water in the bator right now...it's holding steady at 30%. I just candled again (I won't touch the D'Uccles from here on out) and they are very close to the air cell now and the rest of the egg is completly dark..

My 3 eggs all expired. I candled last night and there had been no growth and all 3 had blood rings. I am bummed and so is my son. But we are staying busy with the new chicks and maybe we'll try again later down the road. I am still watching this thread to see what you all have hatch. :)

I couldn't stand it and candled tonight. All eggs are growing, even the one I questioned. I can finally see movement and blood vessels in there! Lockdown in 2 days! Grandkids arriving on lockdown day. So I will candle then so they can see the babies. Getting my humidity up is going to be a challenge.

Regarding humidity, remember; surface area is the key. :) Not volume. Place mason jar lids or anything else similarly that is wider than it is deep and your humidity will be okay.
