Setting eggs tomorrow, anyone want to join?

I had an early death. The one last egg I wasn't sure about. I candled AGAIN tonight, and all but this one egg had terrific blood vessels and movement...so I cracked open the egg in a baggy and sure enough, the egg had a blood ring and it looks like the embryo died around day 5 or 6. I have a pic if anyone wants to see what it looks like. It is graphic but gives you a good idea of what the blood ring looks like.

So now I am down to the 13 eggs and all of them are happy and healthy and moving around like mad. This next week can not go by soon enough!!!

Well I went ahead and candled the new eggs even though its just been 27 hours since I set them, but in most I see the yolk shadow, but there is a dot in the yolk...I assume this dot will become a chicken if it all goes right...yes? The last eggs had no dot. Just the shadow

How was everyone's week?

I'm on day 14! Candled every day, seeing lots of movement. Pretty sure I can make out limbs and a beak in some of them! These next few days are going to go by sooooooo slow...

We got 8 inches of SNOW! No power loss, so eggs are cooking right along. Grandkids arrive Thursday evening, and will be here through Tuesday next week. They are so excited for the hatch. Lockdown on Friday! I will candle then and put in the sponges I bought this weekend.!

BOO for the snow!! Thankfully we are getting slightly warmer temps here in Upstate NY, high 40s, low 50s...I'll take that!

So excited for lockdown and am hoping to have a few hatches over the weekend, but won't be too disappointed if they wait it out til day 21...

My incubator tends to hatch early. A friend used it before me and our hatch days were on the same day yet hers started on a Tuesday night and mine didn't even pip until Friday (due day) so I am thinking that even though my hatch day isn't until late on the 1st I will probably lock down on Saturday night, take out the rails, turn off the auto turner add water and hope we're good! I have 25 good looking eggs. Noticing that the temp is spiking more (nothing crazy, just up to 101) which I always find is the case when is comes near the end as the eggs seem to hold the heat better. And air cells are increasing.

I also have a broody hen that I am going to try and give a few eggs to. She has been broody for almost 2 months now and if I can swing it think might help snap her out of her broody behavior sooner. She is one of my best egg layers as she is is a leghorn if you can believe it! never thought that breed could or would go broody. So I might just give her 5 eggs from the incubator at lock down time and see what happens.

OMG, it's day 15...only day 15!! My D'Uccles are going to hatch early...they have no more room to grow in their eggs and when I candle I can make out their wet fluffiness and feet!! Holy CRAP!! I may have some chicks in time for EASTER!! Yay!!
