setting eggs tonight!! anyone else?

Ughh. My first egg to pip did so at the small end. He was chirping very loudly, but it's much fainter now, and in 16 hours he's made absolutely no progress.

I've been reading up on helping. I really didn't want to get involved, but I have a nagging voice that keeps telling me he needs a little help cause he's just too big to do it alone in the small end.

I try to listen to my gut. Wish me luck.

Very Happy with all of your successes, wish my bator had still been as full as when I started

Laynadon, it is really cool to see all the eggs and chicks in your bator!!! Sorry you had to put down a chick. I hate having to do that and I can't even ask my family, they might cry too.
I really want to know what (I think its Champers) has in the bottom of the brooder? Shelf liner?

Does that work well? Easy to clean or toss?
As I type this I heard a chirp from the bator, loud!!!

I don't hit 21 until later today, about 22 hours. I have 2 pips, one on the wrong end

glad I already read through the last couple days to see what happened with you all. Got home from a longer day at work than I planed and had to miss the poultry meeting I was going to attend.

But I walked in the door telling my mom about my long but pretty good day and I heard chirping!!!! I said, did you hear that and she was like, I didn't hear anything. Went over and looked, pipped egg!!!

Could not resist had to check the other 5, another was pipped on the bottom, small end. Then my mom and brother both had to come see and the dog too, of course.
Oh, my God! I was sitting here trying to figure out how to load up my photos and the wrong ender is throughing a fit and rocking like the whole bator and chirping up a storm!!!

Turned the lights on in the room they are in to see if they get more active or not. Ok, trying to load photos now. Have never done this on BYC.

I finally have a baby!

And even though I checked the genetic calculator, and was fully expecting a little black baby from my Golden Comet hens and Barred Rock roo.....it's YELLOW!

I'll post some pics when it fluffs up and has some siblings :)

I was up until 2:30am monitoring the 5 chicks I helped. I actually helped 6 but I was not concerned with the first hatcher at all. 4 of the others are doing fine, little umbilical still attached so they'll stay in the bator (that first hatcher went into the brooder this morning). The last one is a bit of a concern though is moving around ok, just acting REALLY sleepy. Of the 5 this one is the only one just sleeping, it was the "messiest" hatch I've seen that lived. I felt horrible BUT not as bad as the egg I didn't have time to help before we went to the movie last night, dead in it's shell when we got home, regret. And so it goes. I've got 21 chicks right now, hoping it stays that way!

Congratulations to all the chicks that made it out of their eggs! From what I've seen, this is not as easy as it might seem! Nor is it easy on the bator police, we should all be proud of ourselves! YAY US!

Well, 20 minutes ago I hit day 22 without any hatching symptoms. I went ahead and did the float test. I had one sink to the bottom, but the rest floated. No really wiggly ones. Some of them did kind of float in a circle. Ho hum... HDowden...how are you doing?
