setting eggs tonight!! anyone else?

Corg and Keegan, Congratulations on your babies. One or two is better than none. CowChick, I hope your others hatch too. They are all so cute, everyone.

Mine are going to look so different. They are Blue/Black or Blue/Black/Splash silkies. I SO hope they hatch.

I'm on Day 17! Tomorrow is lockdown (which I am both nervous and excited for.) This morning I candled a couple of eggs and didn't see any movement. Is this normal for day 17? Not sure if it's because they were dead or just not enough room? The egg was pretty dark except for the aircells up top!

Two more babies this morning!!!

From last nights pips! One more black and one more yellow. Down to the last two! Checking now. Nope nothing so far but the of the last two one was put in a day after all the others and they both feel heavy. Hoping to come home to seeing them.

First two out into the small, temporary, house brooder (recycled cow mineral tub) waiting to go out under a hen until everyone is here!
Hope those that are still waiting like me have good luck!

Sad news for me. We had a temperature spike that didn't get caught for over 12 hours. It went up to 105. We did have one hatch, a mille fleur cochin, but nothing else, and we're on day 23. I'll probably do a float test tonight when I get home.

Of course, we do also have 7 serama eggs from a separate batch that should still be ok. They are in lockdown as of last Saturday, and should hatch tomorrow. Our duck eggs are going strong, too, but still have another 10 days to lockdown.

LaGenia, your 1 little chick is so sweet.

I like how you gave it a snuggle buddy until others join it!

hdowden, did any of yours hatch yet?

Oh, I just saw your new post. Hopefully they'll start pecking their way out of the shell soon. Better late than never!

at least im hoping so and im guessing from all the temp problems i have had with this hatch it didnt help their hatch timing eaither

hdowden,
How do you check for internal pips- candle and look for ???

Our one chick got dried off and so we moved her to a brooder. We added water and did a quick check of the remaining eggs.
I know I've read a couple people saying they had a hatch on Day 23 & 24. We're nearing the end of day 23, and it'll be so sad for this chick to be an only

My husband suggested we crack one open, but I hate to do that before the end of day 24- what do you all think?? I don't know if a float test at this point will show us anything.
Ideas or suggestions?

Keegan, don't crack one open just yet, please.

I agree with you to wait until after day25 at least. I would just hate for you to open up a live chick that was just slower in developing. (IMHO)

I will let hdowden advise you on finding internal pips when you candle ('cuz I'm new at this hatching stuff).
