Did my two eggtopsies. Yes, GROSS!!!

I think I'm glad that I let them cool down first (overnight) and opened them outside. The one green one that was left I think had a blood ring, that one was, make me puke (almost), gross with a small chick/rotten glob?

It was a quick look and into the manure compost it went, to keep the dog out of it. The second one, my one brown one,

I think quit about day 18 or 19. From my candling and some of the photos on line of day by day development. Not as gross but still not good. Just wanted to give you my report.

:( I have decided I don't like eggtopsies very much.

I'm getting more Easter Egger chicks today!! :D The lady I halfed my hatch with had another guy hatching some EE eggs for her, too. She said 14 out of 25 hatched and she has some to share.

How am I going to work out the whole temp thing with only one lamp and with 2-3 day olds and 2 week olds sharing the brooder?? advice?
maybe I could make a corner that was cooler for the bigger birds?

Oh, and I can see some development in one of my eggs!! (the only one I've candled) It's very faint but there are definitely some veins in there!! I'm having a great day so far. :)

I had the worst hatch rate ever with these eggs! They were shipped eggs, but this was ridiculous! I started with 63 eggs. 28 of those made it to lockdown. 2 hatched, but 1 died two days later. I opened up all 26 of the others and found all fully formed chicks that died after day 19. Only 1 was shrink-wrapped, 2 had internal pips, but didn't drown from excess fluid. So, that would be a 1.6% hatch rate. So very frustrating!!!

Good for you Layna! I'm not ready to jump into another hatch.

I'm exhausted emotionally. Here is a picture where you can see the little band-aid braces on 3 of my chicks. They walk around like they aren't even there. They are much more active lately...playing "beak" soccer with their food and then pecking the heck out of it! Occasionally I think they eat it-LOL!

LaGen, your Serama chick is beautiful.

I didn't have great luck with my shipped eggs either. It's really a gamble and so especially sad when they make it so far, but don't hatch??? I will probably do more candling and float test my eggs that didn't hatch. This is day 24 of incubation and I'm really hoping to get more, but realistically know I probably won't.

Will you incubate again soon or take a break? Personally, I'm taking a break, but would like to try it again with local eggs and see if I have better success. I wish I could find some SQ Silkie hatching eggs near Sacramento.

:( I'm sorry.

It's a beautiful little baby though. :)

Awwwwww! They are so FUZZY!! (I'm probably annoying the heck out of everyone talking about how fuzzy they are but that's just how it is!)

Which is the itsy bitsy one? She must have grown since last pic.

You make beautiful babies, Cali! XD

Maggie doesn't care for them much... I think she's jealous. Or mad 'cause I won't let her lick them... Either way. :)

Just one little lick? Please? No? Fine. -_-

I think they like it in there. :) They kept "flying" around trying to jump over each other.

The one in the corner that looks like she's standing on her sister, that one was "flying". =P
