I can't add him to the brooder. He has something tragically wrong with BOTH legs. There were 2 out of the 14 that hatched. I wasn't home so my mom and siblings picked out our chicks. They decided to keep one of the "broken" ones. Which, is fair. She graciously split HALF of her chicks with me. (Which I was not expecting.) I was very grateful and we both got one deformed chick and six healthy chicks. But boy, is it stressful. I have no idea what I'm doing. I think he has slipped tendons. I tried to straighten them out and splint them and one it looked like it helped, the other started bleeding. I am dropper feeding him right now. It's the only way he can eat/drink because I have him all bound up. I hope he's ok. I don't think he is, though.
I have decided I don't like eggtopsies very much.
Awwwww, I hope you figure out how to help him. This is the hard part of incubating and raising animals, I think. Some of us just get too attached.![]()
I'm giving him anti inflammatory and antibiotic meds. I'm not sure if it's an infection or what. His legs are really tender. I have made him shoes but they don't seem to be helping. I can't get them to stay in place for any length of time. I'm really thinking we're going to have to have to cull him. I don't see that I'll be able to help him at all. I hope my friend's that was like this is doing better. I'm supposed to be leaving on Thursday until Sunday or Monday but I really don't want to leave him. We'll see.
His leg that had been bleeding is now much less bruised looking with no swelling. It's still tender and purpleish in places, but it's now mostly just a pinkish color. The other leg still looks black. Just an update. I don't know anything, really. He's eating a lot more than yesterday. Hopefully he'll continue to get better.
