Setting Exciting eggs April 22nd, Anybody with me?

On Wednesday the 21st I set 28 Swedish duck eggs in an LG still-air (brand new that I've had for a couple months and am now just getting up the nerve to use it). In my reliable Brinsea Eco 20 I set 8 Narragansett turkey eggs, 8 EE, and 8 red pyle OEGB. These are all eggs from my own birds

Dying to candle... fighting the urge....

I'm in! I have 12 Speckled Sussex eggs that I gave to my broody Australorp last night. I'm excited to see how these guys hatch! This is her third time to hatch eggs, and I've hatched a few clutches in incubators as well. The biggest thing I've learned from all that is it's easier to let the hen do it, but only an incubator can hatch 100 eggs at once! Though I think Freya (the Australorp) would happily sit atop a mountain of eggs and attempt to hatch them all, hahaha! Until last night she's been sitting on fake eggs, diligently trying to hatch fake chicks.

Let me tell you about hatching in my new ( well it is to me) older GQF.
I got sick on the 11 Th and ended up in the hospital for several days. I told my husband to move the turkey eggs in the top tray to the hatcher. When I got home I realized I had made a major mistake when nothing had hatched. I had them moved on day 18 not 25 as they should have been. I told him I had killed them and would just toss them when I had the strength to do it. I was fixing breakfast last week and said I better do it so the hatcher would been ready. I went in to do it and found a new hatched poult. So, I said I wait until I pulled it out to toss the rest. Came back and one more had hatched. This went on every day and there are only four eggs not hatched and I have a dozen poults running around in the brooder. I am so please and shocked that I got any with not turning them that 7 days. Yes they hatched out slower by five days but they hatched wonders of all wonders.

New rule for hatching
Tag each tray with date set, date to candle, date to move to hatcher.
Write it in my hatching log and triple enter it on my face book to remind we to do it.
Only set once a week. Decided Monday would be a good day since weekend we might not be home.
Have 3 full trays in now, set a week apart.

Moving one to hatcher next week.

That's sooo exciting! I know my best hatches are usually from the eggs I did everything wrong on.

Isn't that something. It like OK you blow it but we hung in there then you do Everything by the book and get a bad hatch.
But I got three trays full. I went to lay down for a short nap and I heard this baby chick in the bator. I yell at my husband to come help me check it out because he said there were no chicken eggs left in there. I pulled the top tray and here set a tiny dry bantam. Leg feathers and all. Just as happy as it could be, being rocked by the egg turner. I pulled it out and could still hear another one. Pulled all the trays out and found the shell but no chick. Look on the floor of the bator and saw nothing. Got a flashlight and looked again. Couldn't see it at first but it came to the light. All feathered out and dry. They are in the brooder now eating with the new turkeys. When my husband set the turkey eggs there were two frizzle eggs laying there and he put them on the side of the tray on top of two turkey eggs. He plan to move them to the other tray when he got to the bator but forgot. So these two babies had been laying on two turkey eggs the whole time. When we check that tray, we just didn't see them.

I'll join in here

I have a broody that started sitting on seven eggs morning of the 24th! I'm really excited. This will be my second hatch, first from my flock!! So far I have no clue what I'm doing so the broody hen is doing it for me.
