Woot! 6 babies out. 2 are not due for a few days, and I lost one after it pipped internal but never pipped outside. So sad! I guess I should have checked it earlier when everyone else pipped outside. ugh. These are out of the 15 shipped eggs. I paid for 12. So.. I dunno. I guess I'd consider that %50? I don't get most people's chicken math. I just do it my way, and figure out how much I paid for each chick. These turned out to be $5 per chick. Which is a bit more than if I'd bought them day old, sexed with vaccines. Except then I'd have had to buy more than 6 at a time. *shrug* I guess I could go either way next time.![]()
OMG and the best news, my art teacher is ready for me to hatch eggs that she pays for so that she can re-stock her chicken coop. So I get to do it again!![]()
Wow. I forgot how loud they were right away. They made the incubator so humid they are not drying off. Last one hatched about 2.5 hours ago so I guess they will stay in there until they can walk better before they go in the brooder with the early birds.
I'm so excited. When it stops raining I'll have to get to work on predator proofing part of the yard and a nighttime coop for them. I didn't want to jinx anything by starting that before they hatched... chicken math.

Yes I opened both vents but not until after I had posted this and checked on them again. I guess I'll leave them in there overnight. SusanWonderful! I too tend to count cost of shipped eggs divided by number of chicks hatched. I have some VERY expensive roosters out there!
Are your vents all opened up so they can dry off better?
